After reading some articles about policies to open up society after the vulnerable have been vaccinated and I think that could be quite a lot slower then I'd thought it would.

Hospitalisations amongst under 65's are significantly lower then the older groups but they're not zero. There's also a lot more of us, about 32 million aged 18-65.

Current hospital rate is 260 per 100k for 18-64. Even with the vulnerable vaccinated 18-64's could still pose a significant hospital burden.

If you remove restrictions the total % of people infected at one time will increase. That's currently 2% ( 1 in 50) but if there were no mitigation if it shot up to say 10% of people (number arbitrarily chosen) aged 18-64 at a rate of 260 hospitalisations per 100k that would equate to about 8,300 people in hospital, or the level of hospitalisation seen about a week before lockdown #2.

Someone check my maths please but it's currently but a dampner on my thoughts that we'd have significantly fewer onerous restrictions by Easter.

There is a fair few, but the under 65 is a big group. Most of the hospitalisations in that group are in the over 45s (we report % cases over 45 here as an indicator of future pressure on hospitals). Hence, vaccinating everyone that wants one over 50 is when most people think significant relaxation of restrictions can begin. There’s still serious cases in the under 50s, many have underlying morbidities and would be in phase 1 anyway, but there are obviously some cases that don’t. As always, the unknown impact of the vaccination programme on general morbidity is what determines how we end up. So, I don’t think much has changed, protecting over 65s will put a big dent in the mortality rate, protecting over 50s (really should be over 45s) will hopefully do the same for hospitalisations and the timeframe for both has been suggested as Easter for over 65s, Summer for over 50s, which I still think is achievable (starting mass vaccination in January is excellent, you guys are doing well).

Hoping my Mum will get an invite call for her vaccine this week.

If she's eligible (ie over 80), you may well be able to find the booking page for the local CCG with a bit of searching.

The site being used by the CCG here is on Google, and they've basically said something to the effect of anyone under 80 using it will be turned away, but eligible people don't need to wait for the letter.

Really really worried about the rumours of removing support bubbles - for reasons I won’t go into here - would be devastating for my mum.

If possible try not to get concerned yet ... at the moment it’s just internet chatter ... all the best hopefully it won’t come to that

That would be devastating, hopefully they don’t get rid of them for people that rely on them like your Mum.

The big difference between this and the original lockdown for me is that I’m still going in to work so it doesn’t feel any different for me. Psychologically I don’t feel locked in.

Until more non essential sectors are shutdown then many people aren’t going to comply.

There’s also an element that in lockdown 1, some people were pissed that they couldn’t have fun but at least they got a free 3-month break from work. Now they’re expected to go to work all day then go home and recluse at the evenings and weekends. That really doesn’t go down well with a lot of folk.

I think there was also a novelty element with lockdown 1, and I don’t mean that to try and trivialise it at all but I think people though ‘shit’ this is serious and we need to stay at home.

Even towards the end of lockdown 1 friends had started to get together in each others gardens when they still shouldn’t have been  because they couldn’t be bothered with it anymore and the novelty had worn off.

Now I think people see it as they can’t socialise normally and go to the pub but anything else goes.

ok, thanks...yeah she is 90 so is due one, but I know her area were a bit behind elsewhere in getting the vaccine and they're starting properly this week. I'm guessing it will be the AZ one.

What's the reason for that? Were you furloughed before? But work is able to stay open this time? Or a company decision around home working?

Furloughed before as my work was shut. I can do part of my job at home but need to be in to do certain things. It’s hard to sign off prototypes over an internet connection.

Going into work is my only exercise as well at the moment so good to have a reason to be out.

Surely an open goal for tougher restrictions is being less fluffy about which people can still go to work? I know far too many people having to go in to offices when they previously worked from home in March. Employers taking advantage of woolly language from the govt. I want to see them specifically list the exceptions in as much detail as possible. I guess govt are hoping less people take up furlough than before, but if we need to get tougher then they should be prepared to fork out.

That’s part of what you get from a Tory government sadly. They should be focussing on those things along with more support for the self-employed and support for isolation.

Yep! Aware I’m in a very fortunate situation, but it’s frustrating me being encouraged to go in to work on one side, then Chris Whitty saying how dire everything is and we need question ourselves every time we leave the house. Just need some strong and clear guidance which is not forthcoming from our govt.

It blows my mind that supermarkets aren’t having to do the queuing outside stuff this time and severely limiting how many people enter the store. The amount of people in my local ASDA the last couple of times I’ve been had been insane and there has been many people either not wearing masks or wearing them incorrectly both times.

For months it has been clear that, in supermarkets, social distancing has completely gone out of the window. People cram down aisles like nobodies business and have no respect or intention of staying the correct distance from others.

well done.

Thanks, I am a hero! 😄

We will see if they actually need me. I remember they were inundated with volunteers last March so I might be late to the party.

One thing the government could do is require supermarkets to bring back distancing and one-way systems in supermarkets. Absolute free-for-all in ours right now.

Does this mean a return of the one way systems that everyone ignores?

I follow it at my local coop and feel like the biggest dweeb every time. Every time you go down an aisle you essentially have to restart your route around the shop. Manage to clock up some extra steps at least!
