That is the things with these sort of measures - what is the exit strategy ?   because we are a LONG way off kids being vaccinated.

Japan has decided to stage this summer’s Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics without overseas spectators due to public concern about Covid-19, the Kyodo news agency has said, citing officials with knowledge of the matter.

The Tokyo 2020 games organising committee said a decision would be made by the end of March.

The Olympics, postponed by a year because of the pandemic, are scheduled to take place from 23 July to 8 August and the Paralympics from 24 August to 5 September.

Kyodo said the government had concluded that welcoming fans from abroad would not be possible given public concern about the coronavirus and the detection of more contagious variants in many countries, Kyodo cited the officials as saying

woah, that's interesting.

My missus is Japanese and wants to go over and see her family. She was thinking maybe she could this autumn.

I think they should postpone it till the autumn anyway, but they won't listen to me...too bloody hot in Tokyo in July/August.

Many factors have played into why flu is down.  We also don't routinely test for flu so it's actually not easy to measure.

There are regular monitoring reports produced which are used to track incidence of respiratory tract infections and influenza like illness.

It’s a radical idea but we could stop underfunding our NHS.  That might help with the teetering on a knife edge. 

As for face coverings, I’ve complied at the way through, without question. Removing restrictions to me means returning to life before covid. We didn’t need them before and we won’t in the future.

Schools reopening now, 3/4 weeks before Easter break, and with not many other restrictions being lifted until the end of March will give them enough time to establish the impact the reopening of schools has on case rates, as well as then giving them two weeks over the Easter holidays to do something about it, and allow them to gain more date on case rates. They will also then know how many kids test positive from the tests they have at school/at home to know which was the case rates within school are heading. I suspect if case rates don't significantly increase in school or outside of schools over the next 5 weeks, then they will start lifting restrictions within schools after Easter.

I get where you’re coming from, but i don’t think it’s offensive to state that if you don’t have kids, then issues such as schools reopening and the impact this has to kids won’t have the same importance or relevance to you as it does to people that do have kids. In fact I’d say it’s a very uncontroversial statement.

no thats fair ... the individual issues around the pandemic dont directly impact .... but the understanding that the pandemic does have impacts remains .... I maybe jumped a bit early there ... as ive had many similar things said to me over the years and it puts me on the defensive slightly ive had a very strong argument with my Dad previously on a related matter .... anyway as you were I called that wrong .... important to recognise that at times on this thread 🙂

Cases only down 10% today but testing more than doubled since last week with all the school LFTs.

 

Vaccines are destroying covid, and it’s great to see. You normally don’t see absolute domination on this scale unless you look at pornhub.
