2019 Headliners

If they are the three headliners, my boat will remain unfloated.  That said, I'm excited for a lot of what may be on away from the Pyramid headliners (Chems, Streets, Wu Tang, Vampire Weekend, Iggy, Foals, Weezer?  Even the Gallaghers tbf).  I just don't think there's too many A-list headliners floating about this year if I'm honest, so this is a year where Glastonbury's strong variety and sheer size should make it come into its own.

Its the place to be kids.

So did Neil ever get a reply on that email or what?

and I just have.

If i'm understanding this right the killers info has come from a different direction to the normals from the same source... but as a well connected source his source for the killers should still be sound.

"Confident" is what he says.

I genuinely like it, but I thought the reaction was largely negative?

Didn't go down fantastically with critics, much worse than I thought actually, aoty has it at 69, for reference their next worst score is Suck it and See at 73

Edit: For the record I quite liked it, not amazing but appreciate the interesting change in direction

I think initially people didn't like it because it was different but from friends, reviews and even the AOTY list on here, the reaction was pretty positive considering.

All my mates hated it, I personally quite liked it. But it didn’t go down well with the the bucket hat wearing, flare waving, dark fruits drinking crowd.

Wonderful Wonderful is better than TBHC, and I prefer Arctic Monkeys to The Killers and don’t hate TBHC. They did a good job on that record.

I only listened to WW once and got incredibly pissed off after realising I'd downloaded the "Deluxe" version and was being treated to about ten different versions of The Man after the rest of the songs had finished.

If it doesn't cut it then go elsewhere.

The idea that we are somehow entitled to absolute mega stars on a budget is ridiculous. Yes it isn't the strongest set of headliners but in a year where others have George Ezra or a fucking Gallagher brother we could be doing worse

I’ll go and I’ll have a great time, thanks though.

I rarely see the headliners anyway. Although I’ll not deny I wanted Macca.

It’s much more about Glastonbury’s perceived status in the festival hierarchy, especially with International acts. If they’re looking to the future and you’re trying to book acts who don’t know the size and scale and history of the festival, there’s a danger you approach someone and they see it as a Killers size festival. And then it down.

I meant “be thankful” it wasn’t LG singing Wall of Glass out of his hooter.

But also, yeah why not be thankful? They had a list of mega acts, they’re running out now between some dying , some never willing to come down to a vastly reduced fee and some simply not on tour this year. You was saying the other day that ‘09 was the best year, where they went out and got all legends. Glory years could well be gone, but you can certainly be happy that it happened at all.

If they keep chucking the Killers out there when the options are thin on the ground, well then yeh, the glory years are most def gone.

I don’t think it helps resale chances at all.

Absolutely agree.

Anyone complaining about the suggested headliners ask yourself the question: would I have got a ticket after discovering that the three would be Stormzy, The Killers and The Cure? Chances are that the vast, vast majority would answer yes.

It's our absolute right to be able to complain if we feel the headliners aren't up to their usual standard but who knows what kind of restrictions the bookers have? Financial, certainly. Availability, it would seem so. Suitability, definitely. In their heart of hearts I'm pretty sure that The Killers wouldn't be at the top of their list (they'd probably be tenth after Pablo Honey) but I'm thinking it's the best of what's available in the current climate.

And I don't expect it to be much different for 2020. Expectations need to be lowered. But it's still gonna be the best fucking weekend of the year regardless.

But nothing new about the Cure? Not that we really need it

On here, probably. Still did pretty well and multiple number ones. Not my favourite of theirs but I like it. Aside from the Monster Truck bollox.

    • I really don't think they would put Olivia Rodrigo on Occident stage. If it was her, they would put her in earlier Mordor slot and move Big Thief or Little Simz to Occident.   Fontaines DC are more probable, but don't really match the hype. However, again, if the hype was real, the artist would end up in Mordor.   That being said, I would love to see Fontaines DC tonight.
    • After all the good advice on here I had a nice visit to the site earlier in the week.    Walked down from Pilton village to Hitchen Hill and down the footpath to the Wood by Woodies.    Really strange seeing the site empty of 100,000 people. There is far more hedges and woodland on the site than you remember when the festival is on. Can see the stone circle and some structures still up on site. And looks like Worthy View has some camping going on there during the summer too.   Lots was fenced off with electric fencing to help wth the cattle grazing. Is really amazing how they set up the site as its hard enough accessing the area by car and foot nevermind all the kit needed to set the festival up. As others said you can't walk the whole site but nice to see the site again after a few years away   Pilton is also a lovely village with a nice village hall shop and post office attached, and got to speak to some locals who told me a few tales of past festivals down the years. One house for sale there would be lovely to live in - if only I had £2 million going spare
    • 6music just shared a video of all of Fontaines DC singing along to the Cure last night. It'll be them. Booooo    Olivia might get up for I Love You though...
    • Proper loser behaviour wearing a tee like that. Me and my mate play a game every year called ‘Boomer Tees’ and there’s some gems every time.
