Elton headlines for me alongside AM and Macca. 1975 might have to wait.

Elton could easily headline, especially with him being deep into his farewell tour and having never played the festival before. This is just wild speculation/wishful thinking on my part that the festival gives him an extended, 90 minute, legend slot as their big thing for the 50th.

The 1975 aren't going to headline the 50th Glastonbury the year after they headlined R&L.

Why not exactly? There's a very good chance they'll be the biggest band on the planet this time next year, and they've already expressed a desire to play the festival. If they're available why wouldn't they be booked?

If Elton plays, he headlines.

Yeah I'd take that. Reckon Elton in the afternoon is biggest crowd ever territory? I think it would be.

What's that's got to do with the price of fish?

It's the 50th yeah but they can't magic Led Zeppelin out of their arse. The fact they're headlining R&L this year means nothing with regards to preventing them from headlining Glastonbury 2020 imo.

I see the argument for a bumper edition, with larger than usual Legend, but an Elton show would be so much more special as a headline show, closing the Sunday. IMO.

It all depends on how big a deal the 50th is amongst the top artists. If they buy into it then you could end up with bigger names being prepared to take lower slots to play (I'd stick my mortgage on Coldplay turning up somewhere but not headlining for example). If they don't then it's just another Glastonbury and the festival will just book whoever they can as they usually do.

The big anniversary line ups...
10th - There wasn't a festival ?
20th - The Cure; Happy Mondays; Sinead O'Connor
30th - Bowie; Travis; Chemical Brothers
40th - Gorrillaz (replacing U2), Muse, Stevie Wonder.

Yeah I'm not expecting a huge amount out of the ordinary to be honest. A bigger than usual legend and maybe the odd big act popping up somewhere unexpected (basically, Coldplay doing a secret set somewhere). That'll be it.

Only Emily’s already said that a lot of the bigger acts they wanted have deferred until 50th. Gave me the impression they could have their pick next year.

It doesn’t make sense though really, does it? The 50th is important to the festival, but it won’t have more people attending. It won’t have more television coverage. The best they’d get is association with an anniversary year so maybe slightly more press, but acts that are massive wouldn’t need that.

I agree it doesn't seem to make much sense.

Then again, if Percy approached them and said "cos its your 50th I'll finally do it", they're not going to knock him back, are they?

It could come together as something special but I don't really think it will.

Why would they say no to The 1975 and instead book a band who've released nothing since the last time they headlined and have already headlined 4 times lol?

    • A question has crossed my (questionable) mind;   Has the size of the Green Fields remained the same as other areas have expanded / been added on to, since say, 2014 (the last time that I attended)? Are they 'lost' within, or well attended?    That's actually two questions. The second one just slipped in at the end by taking advantage of my lack of means to stop it.
    • I'd say the same about Kylie.    Annie would be awesome, Duran not so much, and on the issue of them wanting a beanie slot, that probably rules out a fair few others who I think would fit the bill very well... and are legitimately more entitled to a headline, and/or too expensive.   Was just about to suggest Chaka Khan, but see @Gnomicide has beat me to it!    What about someone like Bryan Ferry?
