Today's new Mark Eitzel album sounding pretty good on first listen. Obviously not early AMC good but i'm definitely going to give it a proper chance. Think i'll order the vinyl.

I quite enjoy it to be honest. But it's really hard to judge it on its own merits it's such a drastically altered version of a song that I loved already. I'd be fine with this being the broad direction of the next album, though, with a little more experimentation to it.

So new Granddady is alright isn't it? I like it! Bonobo album is like a lovely warm bath... in sound form! Wiley goes hard every single track, even if the lyrics are often daft. Rose Elinor Dougall's is unremarkable and forgettable. That is my take on the year so far.

Just having a listen to it now, sounds great. Will probably get tickets to the bush hall gig coming up in March.

I was just coming on here to say this - I apparently saw them when they played the Other in 2015, but I have a Brothers-related hole in my memory thanks to partying too hard and too early at Sinkane just before. Oopsie. Would love to see them again and remember them this time...

They were good on the Other - they're good live generally - but didn't attract the biggest crowd.

That's a shame about the crowd, but there may well be more interest now given they feature so heavily in the Trainspotting 2 soundtrack - I hope so, they deserve it.

Maybe....but having seen T2 it's explicitly a film by and for 40somethings and while it uses their music well I'd be surprised if it beought about a huge upswing in their popularity.

True enough - I'm one of those 40somethings, which is probably why I think it will have more impact than it will end up having. Either way, the new tune is great and I hope they're back this year. And on a better stage than the Other.

I haven't been into what I've heard from Young Fathers up until now, but the new one for T2 is a certified banger.

Sticking them on the Other during the day against Sleaford Mods was a poor move in 2015. They are best enjoyed in small venues, their gig at Gorilla in Manchester and again on the Other Voice stage at Latitude (RIP Other Voices stage - replaced too soon by a fucking Jack Wills pop up shop, RIP Latitude's music programming integrity) are in the upper echelons of gigs I've seen in my life. The Gorilla one in particular was amazing, probably tied with Sufjan as my favourite live experience ever. They can do bigger stages, and they proved in Hyde Park this summer that they can do them very well, but for me it has to be either William's Green, or double duty on West Holts and Crow's Nest (and they do seem to like playing multiple sets at festivals).
