The Who are a right class act, they've decided to mark their last ever live shows by pissing in 6,000 fans' cornflakes, dick move.

Neil, do you think that there is an imminent announcement about the rest of the line up excluding the 3rd headliner?

There is talk on other threads about 5 May or maybe 19 May.

3rd headliner will be June, unless someone decides to change what I know has been agreed - which isn't impossible, tho it's not something I'm expecting to happen (even if the who info the sun published is spot-on).

I've privately been told they'll be an announcement in May. I don't have a date for it.

History suggests that an announcement is very likely this week, before the final refund date on Friday.

My take on how PR works says to me that Tuesday is by-far the best day to do it (because of the election) and that the other days look like very bad days to do it (because of the election) - which is how the guessed-at date of 5th May is being talked about.

Glastonbury will have a contract with the band which says "can't be announced until XYZ". Glastonbury will be honouring that contract unless the people they have the contract with (The Who) tell them diffierently.

The Who will have a contract with a promoter which says "other shows can't be announced until XYZ". The Who will be honouring that contract unless the people they have the contract with (BST) tell them diffierently.

BST have their own commercial interests. Why do you think they'd willingly work against their own interests?

At the end of the day BST might decide it's in their interests to come clean to have a reputation for honesty, but that would still be working against their financial interests around that one particular BST show.

(PS: it might not be the who after all, I won't know for certain until you do. But all of the same ideas hold true for whoever the band is.)

Yup you're quite right, but that last paragraph is where all my thinking lies. It's not the prettiest sight for most involved and in these days of public media that's a lot of pissed off folk on twitter and bad press if they don't do some damage control soon

Thanks for that, it makes perfect sense.

Looking forward to lots more names on Tuesday then.

I'm pretty happy with The Who and NGHFB if that is who the Sunday two are.

I would have preferred Blur, but perhaps they can do next year.

Bet there's loads.

I really can't respond to every one of your posts like this, dental, as there are too many and it becomes a bit sycophantic.

But I hope lots on here chuckle like I do. Keep 'em coming, please.

Two upvotes to you suggests I am not alone in their appreciation. Of course I'm far too cool to use upvotes, so sorry on that front, obviously.

Ben

If they're really going to be cancelling shows, they'll have known about all the bad flack that would come with it before they decided to do it - so it's going to be water off a duck's back, and not something they'll suddenly be feeling the need to react to.

They will have played the whole scenario thru in their heads, which will have included everything they were restricted from doing - such as announcing the Glasto show.

Who knows, all of this could have been leaked precisely because they didn't want to be putting the details out there at short notice in June, and the very fact we're talking about it now is because this is, right here and now, their media management plan, the only one it's possible to have right now.

They'll have thought it all thru and will be playing it the best they're able to - but within the restrictions they have to work to because they're legally contracted.

what do you think of it as a booking? seeing as it'll be virtually the same as their 07 set?

Until we can see what the booking is exactly, it's hard to say.

If, for example, it's announced as their last-ever UK show then it becomes hard to see it as anything but an outstanding booking.

Weller has a new album out, the singles of which are the first thing he's done that I've really liked since the Wild Wood era. But I think he'd be a weak sub, and I'm expecting a strong one (eg Noel).

Are both not possible? Weller, then NG, then The Who?

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck!!!

If this turns out to be true this would be an absolute catastrofuck.

The Fucking Who???? Paul Fucking Weller????

What the fuck is it coming to when tired old c**ts who have done nothing but tour the same dull shit for decades like this get booked?

Sad times.

Weller may be a lot of things but he certainly does not "tour the same shit" always changing direction.

Not sure that penguin would adhere to them if this was metallica or maiden though mardy.

I may be wrong but if maiden ended up headlining - it will never happen - under the same circumstances, I reckon he'd admit it was shitty but still go watch them.

I've no idea. You might well be right. I'm still in shock from agreeing with penguin though. didn't ever expect that to happen

Who related. What's happened to Wilko Johnson putting in an appearance after his cancer scare stopped the last one? I mention it because didn't he do some collaborative work with Roger Daltry?

He's playing this year (well TBC, good enough for me). I've got me hopes up for a bit of a Daltrey collab as well

Michaels comments of this being the 'big one' suggest to me this is entirely possible, in which case, it's an absolutely massive booking

Definitely true. They are a legendary act, a household name. Many hits, and a really quite prominent British band. Quite a coup actually when you think about it.

Here's a thought!

Michael should offer the Paris ticket holders Sunday tickets and transport. Lovely day out to a quintessential British farm to see their fave band.

i doubt it will be their last ever UK shows, classless of Glasto if they hype it up as

Daltrey is 71 but in incredible shape, both voice wise and fitness wise, the idea he will just go and spend his days pruning his roses is pie in the sky

Have just got through all the pages since Friday afternoon due to being too lazy to read them Friday night and a rather fun jaunt to Bristol yesterday I am finally caught up with events on this thread. And I have learned three things:

1. If this Who announcement is true then even though it's up to the band themselves what they do i.e cancelling shows, Glastonbury did still have to ask them. Maybe they were asked months ago maybe not, but if true, it is all quite unethical and naughty from the Eavii in my view.

2. Bennyhanna22 makes a lot of sense to me! Plus, I like how he has his name at the bottom of all his posts to totally let us know it's him posting :) Keep up the good work sir!

3. I learned that on the very odd occasion, that, "haha", oh how I hate it when he does that... Penguin, can make some good points when he's not being Mr 'everyone in the world hates heavy metal but me' Stroppy Pants!

I don't understand why it's a disappointment?

A band of that size on their last ever tour, a chance for many who've never seen them to watch them live

What options were they left with taking everything into account? Prince or Fleetwood Mac very very unlikely so that leaves Albarn on there for the third time in six years or someone getting 'bumped up' who probably isn't at headliner status yet

Whether you like them or not, and forgetting abut the Paris issue for a minute, The Who are big draw...
