Yes but most people who weren't being overly optimistic thought that would be the trio. This is the point, they'll guess loads of likely things, and some of them will be correct.

Surely you don't need to explain that to Matt42 when it's the exact same approach he takes when posting on eFestivals?

You know he's already played the Pyramid since then, right? With a respectable crowd and no real controversy as far as I remember.

I was lucky enough not to be at the festival that year.

Even if I was I wouldn't have seen them, as much as I like the Who I still would've found something else to do.

The man admitted buying child porn - that to me makes him a nonce.

Therefore if Glasto book them I will be as far away as I can be. A nonce headlining the Pyramid is unacceptable. I have already had to erase Rolf from my memory without allowing Pete Child Porn Townsend play too

It's a strange one I'll grant you.

The Who are easily one of the greatest bands of all time, have the back catalogue & albums to prove it, obviously they've lost moon & entwistle, but daltrey can still sing the fuck out those tunes!

For those that don't know the who (it kinda shocks me that anyone into music wouldn't know most of their hits as pretty inbuilt into pop culture the last 50years) but grab the greatest hits / have a look at their live stuff on YouTube.

Given the names for acts being thrown about as the last headliner, they are a very strong choice (ideally id have had Fleetwood mac (I've never seen them) or Madonna (who I think would be fantastic, but up against Coldplay / Chris Martin & friends / Taylor swift / blur (I love blur, but that new album won't make for a headline gig & you know they will play only the tunes coxon wants to), a who greatest hits set tops those options IMHO (blur will be around for a awhile, whereas the who really are nearing the end of their touring life, so prob last chance for them to do Glastonbury, also by the sounds if it 2007, was a bad year with the weather & mood onsite, so this gives them the chance to set it right / give people proper memory / experience of the band (especially if you've never seen them, and on a monetary level, a ticket for Their own gigs is an expensive ticket in itself, so good value seeing them at Glastonbury )...ok, it's an inconvenience for the French fans, but these things happen,

Hopefully not a noël g set before them, but The Who are certainly a premium band to headline any festival, certainly will give a communal singalong feel to the end of the pyramid on the Sunday) much more than a Prince set would that's for sure

I can't even comprehend that statement.

Even in 2007, which is the worst weather I've experienced, I'd still do it again in a heartbeat.

How come it seems to be widely accepted that Pete Townsend paid for child porn for "research purposes"? It doesn't sit very comfortably with me tbh. He's on the Sex Offenders Register for purchasing and owning child porn and he's ok to headline Glastonbury. Hmmm

A couple of facts to correct there:

- He's not actually on the sex offenders register (anymore). It was considered a comparatively minor offence so he was only on for 5 years.

- He was never accused let alone convicted of "owning" child porn. The caution was for using his credit card on a site that offered it, but apparently the Met Police found no evidence of any dodgy material on his computers.

That's why I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt - the Met will have done an extensive forensic examination of his computers etc and found nothing, though I fully understand why others have a problem with him.

Can't believe they've booked The Who!!! They only played in 2007!?!?! I'll be at The Chems, they haven't played in a while!1!!!11!

Chems have released 2 albums since then and non-headliners are repeated on a much more regular basis than headliners. Rubbish comparison.

I must have missed the two albums they've released since 2011, were the any good?

On a whole the moaning about repeated acts is pretty poor really, ultimately the festival does much better in terms of not repeating headliners than most and I don't think the crossover between those that attended in 2007 and those going this year is a big as people seem to think.

Oh sorry, was talking since 2007, and obviously including the one they're touring in 2015.

Yeah Glastonbury does better than most, but it's not unreasonable to think it's poor to bring back a heritage band like The Who when they've got absolutely nothing new to offer.

Anyway, most of the criticism isn't based around that; it's them pissing off these French fans. Quite a few people have suggested them before finding out about the Paris gig.

I don't post and I don't have an opinion as such because I use the site as a means to be in touch with the Glastonbury we all love, but .......... Why? I understand being stuck for a headliner, 50yr's, maybe it being late, but why?

Music, people and the feeling of glastonbury is why we go. I'm not comfortable with fellow music people being treated like dirt for the sake of a headliner! Where's the creativity? The thinking outside the box? What has been the issue? If it's wrong I apologise, but the Who in my opinion is desperate and wrong. This festival I love has morals, a stand point, an ethic, that is part of what has made it, not great, but GLASTONBURY! Why are WE watching the Who when people are being forced to do without, rearrange, or miss (supposedly)?

The lack of response?

Glastonbury, I feel, has been hurt by the last day.

P.s I've saw the who 3 times, but I'm not comfortable with this

Glastonbury I still love you.,is that the issue?

( I felt strongly so posted in two threads, Who & headliner, but u don't need me to tell u that)

Nah of course it's a pants booking and a huge portion of the festival's attendance will have been gripped by the festival just like any of us. You can enjoy that they're booked and still recognise how shoddy and uninspiring it is for Glastonbury to dismiss their list-like attitude towards new headliners to book an act that has only fairly recently headlined and penned one new song since while doing greatest hits tours every year.

It's a fair point that the super headliners is relatively recent in the festival's history - it's championing of the underground and up and coming artists were part of the appeal

If it is The Who when they already have serious fans waiting for a gig and nothing new to offer while there are new artists who'd give it everything they've got for a chance it's a poor new line of attack IMHO

Fucking hell, imagine going to another festival and having the choice between The Who and Chemical Brothers? Brilliant bookings if true man.

Didn't he hand himself in as well?

I've never really looked into it but I heard him in an interview talking about it saying something along the lines of "I signed up for it to see how easy it was and then once I got in I phoned the police to let them know" or something like that

From thewho.com forum:

"Mike Starcke just posted on Facebook that he got an email from Who management saying Amsterdam is being moved from July 1st to July 2nd."

Ties in with the earlier post about them moving the second Paris date to June 30th. Looks like they're rearranging all sorts!

50% of the Who versus 50% of the chemical brothers. Definitely a half arsed bunch of headliners.

Welcome to g a t n u y

Might as well add Blink 91, Haircut 50 and The Alabama 1.5
