I think the timing of the hearing means Glastonbury doesn't need to do anything. In the unlikely event he gets sent down, obviously decision made, if not, decision made also.

I'm unfamiliar with them, is he the singer? Or could they conceivably still play without him if needed?

Festival wouldve cancelled their appearance by now if they kept doing what they normally do as mentioned when it comes to this stuff. They havent. Either theyre ready to do it and will adjust plans if things do get worse or they will let it lie. I wonder if theyll think about making another exception to the livestream and let this one be open on the bbc site unless the bbc refuses to show it at all. Then the bbc will get tons of heat which they dont need when it comes to free speech.

You think the genocide is just tangential?

In general? Of course not, it's intrinsically linked. But in the context of this place it's also a conversation that we're allowed to have in terms of its impact on the festival.  Talking about it doesn't diminish the wider conversation.

No way Glastonbury cancel them. The only way they don't play is if he's physically unable to. The "Glastonbury" move would be to double-down, regardless of political and media pressure. What was already a heavily anticipated appearance could be most incendiary in decades. In a good way. If GFL buckle, that's not the festival I know and love.

That would definitely be the old Glastonbury move. Trouble is that these days it has to walk such a tightrope over continued licence approval in, let's be honest, a heavily conservative area, that it simply can't be as belligerent about some things as it used to be. Certainly not when it comes to things like this; not just something anti-establishment but in the bracket of (deemed) lawbreaking.

Which is, of course, really sad.

He’s one of two rappers, they also have a DJ. Technically they probably could do a “free mo chara” type of gig with his vocals on tape or whatever, would be good fun I imagine but can’t see it

Pulling them before the court case makes a total mockery of the principle of “innocent until proven guilty”

I agree, but that hasn't stopped the festival (or the general public at lynching) before.

Is West Holts even going to be big enough for them if the gig does go ahead? I wasn’t planning to go but this egregious assault on free speech makes me want to turn out to show support…

f**k it might even turn up to protest for Kneecap if they do get pulled

If the gig does go ahead it might get dangerously rammed. I imagine it will be a proper statement.

Dwarfed by the once in a lifetime crowd Charli XCX will pull of course, but still 😂

f**king yes.  That Kneecap statement is what Glastonbury should have done in previous years instead of folding at the first hint of right-wing pressure to cancel Paul Currie and ban the screening of the Corbyn film.

You'll get the whataboutery from the usual suspects, as we're already seeing on here, but the public can get behind the simple message that, when there's genocide going on, we're not going to be distracted by a malicious smoke-screen of nonsense about a shouty punk band being shouty.

For old c**ts like me, one of the most inspiring moments of my life was when George Galloway (now a nutter  unfortunately) handed the US Senate its arse on a plate when they attempted to involve him in a smoke screen to distract the public from the disaster in Iraq:

Kneecap statement would be very strong if they were supporting Palestine... but they are showing support to groups that only do harm to Palestinians as well

If a band like Idles or Massive Attack posted that it would have more weight but this is just Kneecap ignoring what they actually did

What did they do? Like if people are more upset about a flag than the images of children’s bodies in bin liners cause by our politicians we’ve got a big problem.
