Honourable mentions - deathcrash, Claire Rousay, Jockstrap, Chat Pile, BCNR, Just Mustard, Mobbs, Michael J Blood, Kemi, Hinako Omori, Dead Rabbits, Unthanks, Lorraine James, Wu-Lu, Tomberlin.

I imagine you've heard them, but just in case, check out Claire Rousay's collab with More Eaze (& More Eaze's solo album) also from this year!

The collab album was decent, just not enough to get into my second tier list. I really like the More Eaze solo album Oneiric if that's the one you are referring to? She's hard to keep up with, so many releases.

With the filtering by year, do you use Last FM to track? I had the same question yesterday and found a website that appears to let you filter by year of release

No, I've got everything in on my music library on my iPhone but you can't sort albums by Year like you can say, Genre, because Apple.

I could plug in my external HD and probably view by year in something like WInamp but I'm running a laptop with my SATA to USB cable because the internal drive is goosed. First world problems.

For anyone interested, I've started reviewing my top 50 albums of the year in a Facebook page... Once that's done I'm going to try and think of new ideas to keep it going and probably turn it into a blog but here it is 🤙

It’s good, you’re very thorough and insightful.

Thank you! I'm doing it for a bit of fun really (after some pestering that I should start turning my obsession with listening to music into a more productive hobby) but it's been enjoyable to have to articulate what I think about what I've been listening to 🙂

Been a great year for music.

I have to say my biggest discovery of the year is Sam Fender. I'd written him off as another Ezra, Bugg style flash in the pan, but when the Glasto line up dropped I started to delve into his back catalogue a bit. He ended the year as my most played artist on Spotify. Looking forward to album 3 and him topping The Pyramid in 2024/25.

AOTY list then. As always based purely on what I've kept coming back to with zero technical considerations

1. Craig Finn - A Legacy of Rentals
2. Lane 8 - Reviver
3. Death Cab For Cutie - Asphalt Meadows
4. Turin Brakes - Wide Eyed Nowhere
5. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever- Endless Rooms

The rest of the top 10 for completeness:

6. Peaness - World Full Of Worry
7. Tears For Fears - The Tipping Point
8. Orville Peck - Bronco
9. Bonobo - Fragments
10. Yumi Zouma - Present Tense

An honourable mention as I don't quite feel like it sits as a new studio album to Olafur Arnalds - Some Kind of Peace: Piano Reworks.
