Headliners 2023

May as well give the percentages a go...

AM - 65%: Loved everything up to and including AM, like Tranquility but not keen on the recent one. Never seen them before so inclined to give them a try in the hope they take it up a gear for Glasto

GnR - 30%: They've got bangers, but not really into them outside of that. Could very easily be swayed elsewhere but would happily give them a go. Going by their most recent setlist, I'd probably dip for the SE Corner after November Rain.

Reg - 55%: Never really been into Elton all that much, but I have absolutely no doubt it'd be a party. Again, will see what else is on but the fact he's closing the fest + my group will most likely be there makes it more than likely I'll get involved.

I quite like a trio like this. No one is an absolute must see, but I think I could have a good time at all three.

You lot have been busy the last day or two!

AM: 70%. Never caught them, always thought I would be there front and centre. The more I think about it and consider who else might be floating around, the less sure I am. Wait and see I guess.

GNR: 30%. Not a huge fan. Will likely check out the first 4-5 songs and then move on.

Elton: 98%. Absolutely buzzing for this, there are veeery few names being tossed around who I would choose over this set.

On the topic of other headliners and subs, I would love to see The Prodigy go up against GNR and QOTSA in a pyramid sub position - under Elton?

That's pretty much the whole Pyramid/Other for me. I think the last act to play that I've paid money to see in their own gig was Orbital(!) - and that was years ago!

Same for me really. If it’s an absolute favourite act I’ll go see them separately as I want the full set with new songs and obscurities etc. Some of my favourite Glastonbury headliners have been the acts I live, but not enough to pay mega money for.

AM: 30% Used to be one of my favourites, love their new stuff but can't see it translating to the field brilliantly. Also seen them fair few times so anyone half decent who I haven't seen as much on another stage will sway me fairly easily. Would sorely regret not going if they bought out some old gems/ a few extra humbug or sias tunes though.

GNR: 10% There's a small chance I may check out 20 minutes or so but they're just not for me at all. Would be ideal to have Fred headlining another stage at this time.

Elton 95% Would take a lot to sway me here, big party at the pyramid while at my first Glastonbury! I also feel duty bout to see at least one headliner so it's the easy choice

Right then, here is the bet, the terms laid out below in full view of everyone on this forum. So there is no ambiguity or wiggling out on either side...

If I lose then I will renew the Gold membership I have refused to do since our last falling out.

If I win then you have to apologise to @roughbloke and everyone else you've treated like garbage over the last year or so.

The terms of the bet are as follows:

Neil, you claim that BST will be giving away tickets to GnR at Hyde Park, I say they will not.

For absolute clarity I regard "giving away" as tickets being made available free of charge (with small booking fee and/or a charity donation excepted). Either directly through BST themselves or via a Seat Filling third party.

Ticket discounts, two for one offers or any other promotions do not count. They have to be "free".

These are the terms, do you accept?

I'll pay for your gold subs for a year to stop this daft idea

if guns are selling out stadiums fifty years into their career i'll be amazed.

To be fair, 2023 is not far off 40 years since they formed so not beyond the realms of possibility.

Not sure if I have had a go at this:

AM - 10%: Seen them before and it really isnt for me, just the soundcheck at 6am brings me out in hives and then its compulsory listening if you're working the Pyramid BUT 19 year old son well into them and I may well have to accompany on his first full headliner set since Adele.

GnR - 100%: Havent seen them since I was 16 and really curious to see how it goes. Plus 19 year old will want to be front and centre.

Reg - 100%: It's a given and can't be missed however faith in a totally enjoyable set a la Stones and Killers undone by watching the Dodgers gig.

Is this Twitter?

I was on reddit and it seemed quite negative

Twitter and Instagram both seemed reasonably positive. Obviously there were moaners like with every announcement, but it was more positive than I was expecting, especially concerning GnR. I guess for some people Billie and Kendrick were their idea of hell so having some standard rockin’ headliners again is ideal for them.

Nah, just a collective shrug and acceptance that it was his time.

I'm the same indifference to both acts, and whilst I do think GnR are shite, some of the responses are quite laughable.

Bit late, but absolutely embarrassing from Neil not to apologise to @roughbloke. Maybe you should spend more time creating relationships with people in the know instead of shooting them down?

Maybe time to accept you don’t get the info you used to and make use of forum member’s connections instead of being so stubborn.

It will never happen. More chance @Neilsitting through GnR than apologising.
