The Weather Thread 2023

The reliable ECMWF 6 week charts are now up to the week of the festival.  This one predicts there will be above average rainfall in the 7 days up to the Monday of festival week:

…and this one predicts average temperatures for the same week but plenty of warmer air floating around:

and finally, the seasonal forecast for the month of June as a whole has also just updated.  A warm or very warm month for the whole of Europe continues to be forecast, in line with previous forecasts:

All in all, a reasonably optimistic outlook.

Anyone else starting to worry? Ground water levels must be high, we need some significant dry weather to allow levels to drop. I don't mind the odd shower at the festival but the main thing is that the water has somewhere to drain to.

Yes!! Very worried. But then, that is quite standard.

A very sunny train ride this morning is tricking me into thinking its all going to be fine

Flood warnings for Somerset and surrounding areas at the moment (worse lower down) so yes, I think it’s looking like a walking boots / wellies year.

Not worried though, will be great whatever happens. We’ll have to wait for @deebeedoobee and the 1st June to see what the situation is like on the ground. And a lot can change in June alone.

Yes! It just doesn't stop raining.

Wettest April in 40 years and May is looking like it will go the same way.

Running out of time to dry out now.

Yep. There's just no sign of a spell of warm, dry weather on the horizon. Better not to peak too soon of course, and there's plenty of time to go...

As much as I love looking at charts and forecasts, the most important one is @deebeedoobee's stick and jam jar.

Question is, how much warm and dry weather do the fields need to dry up, surely a couple of weeks is plenty and if that’s the case then there is plenty time. It will be magic regardless so no need to panic. Hopefully some good weather from the end of this month.

A few weeks of dry weather will definitely do it.  Fortunately. the next two weeks look ok, a few showers and drizzly days but nothing concerning.

June looks promising though there's very little reliability in those forecasts at this stage, but it is reassuring that they are looking good.

Either way, it is still far too early to get worried or excited.  The weather rollercoaster doesn't properly begin until it's in range of the GFS charts in June.

Just preparing my packing list. I've done muddy ones so want to make sure I'm prepared for the worst if it happens.

My verdict, it'll be areet

Yup, worst case scenario is that I'll finally get to use my SeelSkinz waterproof socks.

But I'd still rather be in a wet, muddy glastonbury than anywhere else in the world that weekend.

    • mmm... i note there are several derogatory comments about this... not sure what it says about me, but i could spend a happy afternoon here...   Simple Minds, Deacon Blue and Texas are all great live bands.   hell, i'd even be drawn away from the bar to see James Blunt (if only for a bit of a nostalgia trip for his show on the Pyramid that i admit i hugely enjoyed).   still, with all that said - there's no way i'm going to the other end of the country for it...   🙂

    • Have a great festival to those that are going, I cant wait to get there tomorrow!
    • ah i get ya.. Yeah I hate festivals that have that barrier and front section. Roskilde is gonna be the same, which I'm not looking forward to navigating. Like you say, you end up missing other stuff having to get there dead early. Luckily there's not much we're arsed about on at Roskilde though so that wont be such an issue! hahaha
    • Not directly my expectation but my wishlist   - car seat headrest (it has been way too long these guys did Europe) - death cab for cutie - new constellations - interpol - bush - swimschool - suede - the haunted youth (should have been there this year) - flipturn   and oh yes Yumi Zouma can come any week, day, hour but this is a personal fetish with this band
