Would love it if he did The Blacker the Berry, such a powerful song and he didn’t play it when I saw him at Manchester for the DAMN tour. He played it at a festival in Vegas recently, setlist.fm says the first since 2016 so fingers crossed!

Seems fair enough this is a bang average album. Kendrick can be a master storyteller but his lyrics are so dense that it can take a while to get the story so initially it has to be the music that reals me in and having played through this album a few times over the weekend I'm just not fussed by it and what I have picked up lyrically isn't drawing me in either.

1. Good Kid, MAAD City
2. To Pimp a Butterfly
3. Untitled/Unmastered
4. DAMN.
5. Mr Morale
6. Section 80

Yeah I get that. Tbh every time I listen to it I switch between ‘instant classic’ and ‘eh, this is pretty good’. I think there are definite moments of brilliance on there, like real ‘this guy is on another level’, but equally a few of the songs don’t leave much of an impact once they’ve finished. To me a lot of it sounds like DAMN. but without the immediately catchy hooks.

Also don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned on here yet but Kodak Black being all over this thing is a shit move from Kenny that unfortunately mirrors Kanye’s inclusion of Manson on Donda quite a bit yet doesn’t seem to be getting nearly as much flack. I’ve seen people defending it as ‘him being flawed is why he’s on the album, that’s the point’ etc, but the guys a rapist and Kenny is giving him a platform just doesn’t sit right at all imo.

4. Mr Morale
5. TPAB
6. Section 80

Notably, a lot of those reviews were early reactions rushed out by Friday lunchtime after the album had only been out for a few hours.  Will be interesting to see if they continue to hold up.

Most outlets definiely rush to overpraise these days as they don't want to be seen to be slagging off a future great.

I think guests like Tanna, Summer Walker and Blxst wont make the trip. Summer has a show on June 24th which really shrinks that chance. Theyll be at Rolling Loud along with Keem  moreso. So having Sampha and Beth being that theyre local has the best chance. At least it makes it unique in that aspect being that you likely wont be able to see Beth guest anywhere else.

shocking review by picthfork.  i do find myself agreeing with alot of their takes on music but this is so off. feels like a kodack black comprimised review to me. i listened to damn yesterday and stand by my view that morales is superior to damn in every way other than catchyness. and they have damn 9.2 (which i did think was inflated at the time, i had it at an 8.X on the pitchfork scale). Some of the stuff the reviewer says are just plain odd. lacks depth? I have the album at 9.3, same as TPAB. nutty review.

No way DAMN is better that Mr Morale.

I think as others have said, it terms of immediate grabs from hooks etc. Damn. is probably superior. But pretty much everything else is better in Morale.

Damn an 8, MM a 8.5/9

20. Alright

From checking his set lists the past couple of years (especially festivals) he's averaged 19-20 sogns. The only ones I'm not confident on is ADHD, but he needs something from Section 80, and Mother I Sober with Beth. If we can get this and add in All The Stars, I'd be very happy.

7 songs from the newest album, not including the 2 videos,
3 from DAMN (maybe add in Element if you take out Mother I sober)
3 from TPAB
5 from Mad City
1 from Section 80.

Stick stick stick stick. I love this.

I’d be surprised if he played I though. Has he played it often?

Also I think loyalty will be in there

    • Electric Callboy just said they'll be touring here next year. I'm not sure there's a poster for it though. I'll look when I'm near some next.      He said we'll see you at Download at a gig before any of the band. Presumably he was trolling. They're in Austria at the moment and Germany tomorrow with a week's break and more shows in Germany. Whilst not impossible to come back here and then go over there again, it seems unlikely.
    • Thomas Partey, knocked back by Canadian immigration now.
    • I'm sure someone can update you on the clashfinder, and it will be pretty accurate by the time the festival comes around. It's a large flat-ish arena with main stage in the open air, no best side I'd say. Leadmill (3rd stage medium tent) is at the back of the main arena, T'Other (2nd stage big tent) 5 min walk round the corner. At full capacity walking around can take a bit more time though. I noticed that The Enemy are scheduled to not fully overlap with Wolf Alice, so you could catch part of their set too.   You can walk around anywhere with a beer, with most bars the usual mass market stuff, but one nice craft ale tent, back of the arena near the Leadmill stage. A main meal will set you back £10-15, but cheaper snacks also available. Expect a pint to be £7-8. Possibly a bit more this year as prices everywhere are increasing.   It's fairly easy to get to from the town centre using the tram, although can be busy at peak times / very busy at curfew. If you like a walk, it's approx 40 mins to Kelham Island (lots of indy venues) and probably an hour to the city, or catch an Uber. There will be loads of 'fringe' music events on around the city right through the weekend. Most are free. Have a wonderful trip, enjoy the festival, and your stay in our city!
    • I think people on a place like this, that clearly value live music more than most, don't. I'd rather an academy than an arena every day. But I could see a few people that care about "the gram" than the actual music wanting an arena experience even if it's a mid sized band.
    • The single worst shout for any slot on any stage in the history of efests. Worse even than the Wursels or The Wombles.    Unlikely I’d be there, but okay with the other two. Boy George is a class act, plus he could DJ in Block 9
