If one of the headliners is SZA then that is a breath of fresh air. GNR last year was an uninspiring booking (in my opinion) for a festival which is self-named contemporary and is celebrated as the pinnacle of musical festivity in its own right, so this would be reassuring. SZA is a four-times grammy-winning, globally (and UK) high charting artist who comfortably headlines any major festival in the world. It's not really a risk or a leg-up - there will be more than enough fans of hers at the festival, and the streaming numbers of her performance (on BBC's YouTube) will likely end up being among the highest of the weekend (if she is playing).

That's a fair challenge and you're not wrong - but it's also fair to say it is more difficult for Simz to get to that level organically in the UK, not least because the music she plays isn't mass-appeal pop (not that there's anything wrong with that music). If you look at her peers in terms of 'bonafide headliners' from her era you're looking at Sam Fender and Lewis Capaldi, who she doesn't stand a chance against. This is why I can see Emily wanting to give her that step-up at some point, similarly to how it was given to Stormzy. Not as a tick-box exercise, but as a contemporary and genuinely exciting British booking. We haven't had a Pyramid-headliner-level female hip hop artist in the UK ever before, so the first time it happens, it probably won't be the most glaringly obvious name.

I believe Emily will give Simz an opportunity to headline as soon as possible. She's definitely on the right path with critical acclaim and five-star live reviews, and the step up would already be justifiable imo - even more so after her next album if there's one or two songs with a decent amount of radio-play outside of the R6 echo chamber. It would elevate her to a household name as it has done with Stormzy (when he was initially rumoured ahead of 2019 I seriously questioned that decision even as a fan of his). Pyramid headliner and household name are kind of chicken and egg for some artists.

Fun idea, got carried away and did a few: Kanye - The Strokes - Madonna Metallica - Outkast - Whitney Houston Oasis - Taylor Swift - Prince Lady Gaga - The Chemical Brothers - Jimi Hendrix The Carters (Beyoncé + Jay Z) - Fleetwood Mac - Kate Bush (returning - new - never) Had Slipknot over The Strokes originally on the first one but hard one to picture on the Pyramid realistically. Also had Biggie over Hendrix but a hard one to picture too - wouldn’t have headlined in his day but definitely would if he was still alive today. Last one is totally cheating with The Carters but a boy can dream.

Best for me was the wings (and tacos) from Mexican Seoul beside BBC Introducing - did anyone else try these? Fuck me, the wings were amazing. The Korean-style Gotchu Gang sauce on these was absolutely banging (from a buffalo fan). Their spicy pork belly tacos were also top tier - I didn't get to try the other ones. Also loved their story that they were all furloughed during lockdown and just started making wings in their kitchen at home perfecting a recipe. I went there three times.

I didn’t believe that Green Day rumour in the slightest and assumed that the Somerset Live article was regurgitated from here, but if there’s any credibility to the chat of them being booked Babington House then that certainly adds up with them playing. Would be no logical reason for them to travel so far South West between shows in Huddersfield and Dublin, and the Soho House venues are common spots for celebs etc. Suspect it may just be local Somerset hearsay based on the article, but huge if true.

My mate actually bumped into Billie Joe in London last weekend! He was on site at Glasto in 2019 watching his son's band. Secret set would be very good fun but don't know if I can see it happening in JP - even with their lack of relevancy these days they're still a colossal-sized band, would be like when The Killers played (as in rammed as fk). Suppose if their support act are playing that day it's not out of the question that they'd be travelling the same route. Don't see them headlining next year (or ever) though, think if they ever play it will be a secret set or 'special guest' slot kind of thing, like what Aerosmith were originally booked as.

He’s added this on the US version of the album on Spotify, onto ‘Disc 3’. Not sure if this means there is a deluxe on its way with more music, or if his label are just trying to bump up the album streams.

If you Google image search ‘Glastonbury 2022 line up’ that’s the fifth / seventh image which comes up. Fk knows why they’d pick the clearly fake one, maybe just thought it was the biggest looking line up.

Same here - I've barely listened to anything else since it was released! Not sure what his stage production will be like, but I would guess it will be along the lines of what he had in Vegas in terms of dancers, choreography and big lights: (there's no official footage of this so apologies for linking phone footage) As there are tap dancers featured throughout the MM&TBS album, I can see there being some kind of tap dancing motif at some point as well - and maybe an intro video based on themes from the new album (think he did something like that on the DAMN tour). In terms of previous albums, check out Good Kid Maad City, To Pimp A Butterfly and DAMN as he almost definitely will play songs from all of these albums, as well as a decent portion from the new album. Section 80 is also a very decent album of his worth checking out once you've listened to those three, but I'm doubtful any songs from it will make the cut for the Glasto set - although I hope I'm wrong on that. As others have said, he usually plays with a live band so I'd say that's one thing we can expect from the set. The rest is guesswork!

After listening to the album more times than I care to admit today, I think United in Grief would be an unreal opening song to the set.

I'm loving the album, although it's very much still marinating so it's too early for me to rank it against his others. Both TPAB and Damn didn't hit me fully on first listen and they are among my favourite albums now. Loved GKMC from my first listen but still today I still find things I didn't acknowledge or understand on the album (thank you Dissect et al). The production on MM&TBS is exceptional and hugely creative at times, and there are layers upon layers of substance in the lyrics - which I suppose is what we've come to expect from Kendrick these days. It hasn't been out long enough for Genius / YouTube to help me out with some of them, and I'm sure many of the sub-themes and lyrical somersaults are likely going over my head at this early point - but I look forward to delving further. There's definitely some correlation towards the difficult subjects and experiences he reveals about himself on the album and the controversial inclusion of Kodak throughout, but I need a few more listens to draw a proper conclusion on that. I found the tap dancing motif throughout really sinister but so relevant. Auntie Diaries is very powerful. Using that slur was incredibly bold, and personally I do think the shock and discomfort of hearing it (repeatedly) hugely helps get the point across which he sums up in the final bars. For obvious reasons though, it's not up to me to decide whether it's 'right' for him to use it in art form. Favourite songs for me on the first few listens are United In Grief, Father Time, Count Me Out, Savior, Mr Morale and Mother I Sober, but enjoying all of them to some extent. I didn't really know what to expect from him with this one, but it's fair to say there aren't any other major hip hop artists making projects of this much depth and complexity at the moment.

She's closing Sunday night at San Remo I think, not sure about Silver Hayes and other sets.

This is a really useful thread. I went on a long solo mission on the Saturday in 2019 on the hunt for a shower - free or paid, only to find out they'd all been turned off. I can live without it, but a proper shower at a festival is a game changer in my opinion and the old bottle over the head job at the campsite doesn't cut it for me. Definitely interested in knowing all of the options as I don't think it was clear from the map / guide lanyard - but this is maybe more a reflection of my mind state on day four of the festival. Would happily pay a tenner or so for a decent hot shower there if you can also rent towels etc and there's not a ridiculous queue. Will look into getting one of the campsite shower products people are posting as they look like a great shout when it's hot.

Was listening to a few of these yesterday - Kendrick's version of 16 sounds so good, even if it's just a reference track. Friends and label mates (or family members in this case) helping each other out with writing is common in the industry so Kendrick being involved in a large part of Keem's work and being uncredited for it doesn't surprise me too much, but definitely is interesting nevertheless. Despite that though, Kendrick writing Jay Rock's verse on Money Trees is pretty crazy if true seeing as how highly regarded that feature is.
