2020 headliners

So to summarise:

  • As a gift from the gods, Taylor Swift is the most likely headliner at this stage (not saying a whole lot given the scarcity of solid rumours at this stage). Glasto shaped hole, festival headline tour for the 1st time ever, UK show "TBC"
  • Fleetwood Mac have been rumoured, but currently have no shows for next year
  • Macca was explicitly ruled out early on, but recently said he was possibly interested in playing on Radio 2
  • Foals have been rumoured, but not explicitly as a headliner AFAIK. Likely to be there in some capacity, perhaps as a sub/backup headliner
  • The 1975 seem a slam dunk, but latest info was they hadn't been booked. Still think they seem very likely.
  • No info on Elton, but he would make a lot of sense given the farewell tour
  • Random rumour that Kendrick is on the cards, but nothing to back that up yet
  • Madonna speculation seems to have gone very quiet and doesn't seem particularly likely at this stage
  • No rumours on Blur, but could easily be there

I think putting money on The 1975, Macca and Swift would be a pretty shrewd move at this stage.

Not been keeping up too much but i thought with all this 1975 talk there had been something placing them there/making them seem likely. Obviously not.

Nothing at all. A couple of weeks ago, someone tweeted The 1975’s manager saying about Glasto next year and he responded “???” or something, and then a few years ago Matt Healy said (predicted) they would headline R+L and then Glastonbury the year after. So we know they would do it but don’t seem like they’ve been approached yet.

Its a mirror to the Fleetwood Mac/Elton John saga. Rumoured headliner vs. alternative that people have decided makes more sense despite no link.

Really good summary. This should be pinned somewhere.

The Elton thing is really interesting because I don’t think there’s been much to link him to Glastonbury... well... ever. He never chats about it and I don’t think I’ve ever heard Eavis even mention him.

At this point I really didn’t expect TS to be a likely option at all so it’s kinda thrown off my expectations. This year is a wildcard. I feel someone like Arctic Monkeys is due a sneak attack.

I'd take the hit with Arctic Monkeys all day long if it was the price to pay for Taylor.

She would be the headliner of the decade.

I agree but I do get this feeling that the 1975 haven’t been booked. They are still giving off a vibe that they are waiting for a call. Perhaps it’s just me.

If they are not in contention then (to me) that means that Glastonbury are deep in talks / probably booked another big British band. Unless it’s Coldplay again Arctic Monkeys or (hopefully) Blur would make more sense as they both haven’t done it for a while.

ANYBODY but Coldplay.

Literally anybody but Coldplay. Every other act deserves the gig more than them.

It couldn't possibly be Coldplay, surely. I mean, CM will inevitably pop up in some form but I think odds are long that they'll be back headlining again with no new material. That said, the last time they headlined, they stormed it and I quite like them (there, I said it) but I don't want a single whiff of them next year.

Swift, FM, Macca, Reg, Madonna - if that's the calibre they're going for, next year will be epic. Or the worst of all clashes. Probably both.

... Is this not just like pretty much every headliner sized band?

Great summery besides that.

Get new friends.

Planning on it, can't do with people dissing Taylor. In all seriousness I've only just managed to convince them to do Glasto, so I should've dumped them ages ago, they said they'd only go if the lineup is good!!

Hate to sound like quite a lot of users and I know Glastonbury just gets who they can, but if Taylor is headlining then there needs to be a big British band to kinda balance it out and reduce the Neil Lonsdales.

Do you think Lonsdale and his ilk have much sway anymore? Kanye didn't make Glastonbury implode and there's since been Adele, Stormzy and others that his type probably wouldn't think much of, but I think they've long since lost the argument.

The current state of politics suggests that Gammons are far from a diminished force.

I honestly think a secret set has more potential to happen. It's the one thing they could do other than headline. Also, given they will be coming back off the biggest hiatus of their career, they may want something a little lower key.
