I dont think it would be them desperate to do the legend slot, but if they could get Fleetwood/Madge/Arctics and then Elton as the legend slot I think they would be pretty happy.

Those four in a single year is wildly optimistic, but in that hypothetical I can’t see Elton being all about being the fourth choice headliner holding the short straw. He could rightly tell them to shove their anniversary.

I can see Glastonbury being all that bothered by offering Elton more than the headliner option as it sounds like he's not been asked previously. If they got Madonna and FM which would be their priority they'll happily take Arctics or Blur then out Coldplay in the Legends spot if Elton says no, if he says yes they do something different.

It would be great if the festival could give Coldplay a swerve for their 50th anniversary but its not going to happen is it, they're probably planning their next album around it.

Coldplay will almost certainly be there in some capacity (secret set most likely), but they won’t headline.

My guess is 3rd down Pyramid Saturday though I think they'll still opt for an American act there...whichever female does big weekend haha, or the Legend slot on Sunday. It could be secret as far as just having a TBA on the Pyramid until they come on but that's a far as secret could go I think.

There’s whispers on the coachella board that Coldplay are lined up for 2020

They might be. Doesn't mean they'll do Glasto too.

my guess is that Coldplay will sub and not headline. Or a secret set.

I could see this happening. I don’t think that the Pyramid headliners will be that much bigger than usual but maybe we might see a lot of bands  “associated” with Glastonbury headlining other states (Orbital, Levellers, Muse) or doing secret sets (Pulp, Coldplay etc)

alternatively could be McCartney

I've had solidly-sourced info that he's not in the running - better sourced than what Michael said on TV.

I'm guessing that's because he backed out this year and something around that* makes him not possible for next year.

(*another guess: that he won't be on tour then).

I think we should be careful about predicting sky high lineups. It could just be another Glastonbury year lineup but obviously marketed as the 50th anniversary.

Remember a lineup is fully dependent on who is about.

Loving the outlandish predictions but surely the idea of 6+ headline size bands playing throughout the weekend is pushing it.

If they pull a vintage trio of FM, Elton and/or whoever that'll be special enough.

Wouldn't shock me to see some bigger bands that are friends with the festival in lower slots then normal

Muse, blur, coldplay, pulp, Radiohead

Every chance any of them would do something like open the pyramid with it been the 50th

that was Emily's exact quote practically (minus the friends bit) at the onset of the 40th in 2010 before Scissor Sisters, Faithless, and Dizzee Rascal were revealed as pyramid subs

    • Fontaines getting the honour of the last ever BBC Maida Vale session going out on 6 Music shortly.   No Glastonbury relevance (for now.. ), just thought I'd mention it for those who are interested 😎
    • Had a wonderful booking in one of our primary woodland venues this weekend. A 30th birthday arranged by a load of musicians and entertainment industry professionals. It was primarily a folk oriented event, however I noticed one young woman who didn’t seem to fit dress and appearance wise. Turned out to be Frenetic, one of the top up and coming UK Jungle and DnB DJ’s.    Anyway Saturday night turned into an EDM session and I got to do a set. Slightly nervous considering who was there, it was great and Frenetic loved my set. She’s closing Data Mine at Shambala this year.
    • they got lucky and the thunderstorms stayed away. It was still wet of course. Some of those boot sucking puddles did emerge from what a couple friends saw who were there.  Post fest aerial also below   and also a sapphic mud wrestling contest?
    • It's even less funny when in real life too...   Liddle met Rachel Royce and the couple soon became romantically involved.[84] In January 2004 the couple married at a ceremony in Malaysia. They had been living in Heytesbury, Wiltshire, and had two sons together. Six months later, Liddle moved in with Alicia Monckton, a 22-year-old receptionist at The Spectator. It transpired that he had cut short his honeymoon with Royce so that he could be with Monckton. Following their divorce, Liddle and Royce exchanged attacks in the media. Liddle called her a "total slut and slattern"
