Fuck it, Hot Chip to headline the Other Stage. If LCD can smash it with a small crowd then so can Hot Chip. Al knows the score.

This most definitely... Friday night please.

I don't give a shit who they are up against, Hot Chip dancing in the dark on a Friday sets up the rest of the festival...

I detest The Other stage and always hope there is no-one on there I want to see... Hot Chip are the exception.

I like this line of thinking. Put them on the Sunday up against McCartney so he can pull the masses and leave a 100% party crowd for Hot Chip. Would guarantee sending the festival off on a high.

I seriously like the cut of your jib. I was going to see Paul, but fuck it, I'm #teamhotchip.

Having seen hot chip at SW4 I made a b-line over to the set in 2015. It did not disappoint.

Much like blowing off the ginger one for Justice in 2017 it was one of my better choices....

WH headliner - deffinately, Other stage  headliner or sub - possibly, Pyramid 3rd - possibly.

You don't think they could sub the big one?

It depends on who was headlining. But I'm not sure the populist crowd you get at the pyramid would get it. Especially with the names rumoured for 2019.

But if they were there so would I be...

It was a fantastic set and my first ever Glastonbury headliner, so not a bad baptism.

For that reason, I think I’d be ‘sad’ for them to get some mediocre Pyramid slot, but agree that it’s hard to place them after that WH set...

That was the night of the Super Furry Animals vs Hot Chip clash which I've never fully come to terms with. I went SFA that night (they were magnificent) so would be a very happy man if to Hot Chip are back in '19.

Too big for JP? Would be a great atmosphere in that tent.

Oooh - that or a "secret set" in JP.

Here's a radical one for you.... headliner in a completely revamped "silver hayes".

There's definitely a thread somewhere, it's a lengthy love fest of Cave-thread proportions.

WH 2015 set got to be one of the best ever on the farm ?

Yes there is, I remember it well!

Feels like it's too soon to do that slot again but that is silly really isn't it? As said Chems do the same slot all the time, as does Cave. I'd definitely be there for them, bloody love them and delighted they're coming back. I could see them do a good sub slot on Pyramid but fuck it yeah let's push them to Other. Got to be Alt J crowd size at least! Plus if there is something guitary and bland on the main stage it'll attract the randoms who just want a bit of a boogie.

Loved Joe Goddard's solo album too.

Thanks for posting that clip. What a night!

Here's the thread from last time, all 32 pages:

Actually, Hot Chip only announced Why Make Sense in February 2015 for a May release so now you've gone and got me all hopeful again.

Album due early next year is what Al Doyle told me back in June. Hopefully we're still on course for that. 8)

I know it's already been mentioned loads, but that 2015 set at WH was immense, I was pretty far back but the atmosphere was still electrifying - i did over indulge a little bit and was back in my tent, zonked by midnight but no regrets!

Yes, it was a bugger of a choice for me too!

But, even though I like stage hopping, and as said, the run of Run The Jewels - Caribou (in the setting sun) - Hot Chip was rather splendid.

Don't think anyone mentioned this yesterday but they've been announced for APE supporting Chems so seems even more likely... not sure where that puts them size wise.

Probably means they're the same size as they've been for years.  I'd say headlining JP, WH, subbing Other and supporting Chems are all pretty much in the same ballpark.

Pretty much. Although I think there are bigger acts in the ring for subbing the Other too, so maybe bumped down one or two. Doesn’t matter though - a great evening set can set your night off the right way and avoid all the clashes.

Every member of Hot Chip seems to be on site every year playing in whatever solo project they’re on anyways. I know this as they always tend to camp, drink and play near me.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
