According to people in the know the bands prefer it too.

The Other Stage is a sort of halfway house these days. Bands that wouldn't quite work on other stages get chucked on the Other. Its name has (d)evolved from mildly comic to full on descriptive. Odds n Sods.

if that first bit is really the case, and resulting in the 2nd, expect a west holts type of re-brand sometime-soonish.

exactly it has no identity, yet its the second stage at Glastonbury...all the interesting stuff is at the park or JP, im just not sure its a good thing that the 2nd stage at Glastonbury is so meh

Same here but I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm too old to be there after the rush has gone around four am and still be alive enough to do all I want to do in daytime.

I'm at peace with that now. Impossible to do it all. Just have to enjoy what I'm doing rather than worry about what I'm missing.

Still get jealous afterwards, mind.

Yeah this completely. Latest I stayed up this year was 2am but I'm 32 and need my sleep these days. We wandered around Park, Glade area and Silver Hayes a couple of times instead. We were going to the Williams green northern soul thing but got lost!

I like going to Shangri La in the day though. Hoping for a night devoid of headliners or subs I want next year so I can go when it's a bit more lively but not rammed.

Couple of posters on here in their early 30s saying they are too old to stay up late. Making me feel properly ancient.

Me and Mr Charm can still pull all nighters. Come on. You can do it.

It's Glastonbury after all.

It's less "can't", more that it leaves us a bit knackered for the rest of the day. Preference for enjoying less of the festival while being more with it than more of it but tired I guess.

I was 35 3/4 at the last festival and I was up until 4-5 most nights. I slept for about three days on returning mind.

I like to stay up all night on the first night, and at least one other night, and never go to bed before 3am. However, I do like a little assistance, which I realise is cheating!

I was 38 2 weeks ago, and probably should know better.

This is where I fail you see.

Booze and weed aside I'm drug-free - and I stay away from weed at Glastonbury as it makes me sleepy - so I think that's why I fail in the nighttime where other oldies (38) succeed.

I can't smoke unless it's bedtime for precisely that reason!! If I didn't have help I can do an all nighter, but that would wipe me for the next couple of days.

I would MUCH rather see a band at The Park than Other

Yep.

I think the major problem with the Other Stage is its location. It's sort of in a cross roads with people moving through all the time (Compare to Park, Pyramid, JP, etc. which are all "destinations" of sorts)

Of the big stages it is my least favourite. Being very flat it often isn't easy to get a good view of the stage other than on the big tellies and in the past it has suffered from sound bleed. West Holts also suffers from this slightly but is smaller and so is less of an issue. Park is great (much prefer it to JP - unless it's raining!) but I do wonder why it can't be rotated to face up the hill rather than across it?

I thought that the Other had improved slightly this year given the fact that it was loads larger than previous years, gave me a better view of the bands for sure. But maybe that's just me...

45 - saw 3 sunrises out of 5 - get a grip people - it's the only 24 hour party that lasts 5 days that I'm aware of.

Right but when did you get up?

I don't know for sure but I'd imagine a lot of the people doing this aren't then off seeing Marcus Brigstocke at 11am in the Cabaret, or doing some Green Fields workshop at 10am?

Plus with the bands/comics I like, mid-afternoon tends to be my busiest time so napping during the day doesn't really work either.

Essentially my favourite time of the festival is in that 11am-5pm spot which is the bit you end up really knackered for if you stay out all night.

Exactly. And if there's one place in the whole world that you don't wanna be wiped out for a couple of days..........

This is what stops me doing harder drugs than weed and drink - I can manage those and their effects on a day by day basis, but a night on the mandy and the next 2/3 are 'different' because of it, and frankly not as good

i Do Not miss the speed days :/ 3-5 days of grinding afterwards urgh

Raaaaaaaaaaaar!

38 - 1.5/5 but that was a bit unwillingly, must tell my mates to sod off and not let them lead me back to the tents (a half for going 'meh too cloudy' and going to bed) - I must do better.

It's all about pacing yourself, and being physically prepared. 5co77ie surely has to admit that his high-festival diet life is cheating a bit - similarly my physical outdoors job means the jump to festival-pace isn't that much and if I'm excited enough about the next day I just wake up anyway.

Yeah this exactly. I could force myself to stay up later but I can never sleep past 8 at the festival and I need more than 3 or 4 hours a might these days. Especially consecutive nights. And I don't do class As any more, which is a me thing not an age thing. Staying up til 2 suits me. Like everything at Glastonbury you do it your way.

Right but when did you get up?

wednesday: up from 4am until 3am

thursday: up from 8am until 1am (5 hours sleep)

friday: up from 8am until around 6.30 am (7 hours sleep)

sat: up from 9am (2 and a half hours sleep)

sun: went to bed at 3am (none)

mon: up at 5am (2 hours)

It's great that people stay up til sunrise and enjoy it. I've done it in the past. These days though I just listen to my body and it usually says sleep before then! Which is cool. If I force must to stay up out of some sense of duty or because it's Glastonbury that seems pointless to me.

I cant pull an all nighter then do a 6 hour physical shift. You are all superhuman.

You're kidding right? I doubt many of us could do that either! I reckon you did bloody well there, we just have to get up and fall over near a stage with something that we might want to see on holding some cider, you have to get up and Do Things

Kind of depends if I pull or not. Usually 3am if I carry on by myself, one night maybe edging 5am but I'll be lying in until 11am the next morning before I even think about rolling over for another half an hour.

Usually I just keep an ear out to see if my mates are up or not, otherwise I'll keep my head down.

I'm usually pretty good at staying up till beyond 3 and then getting out the tent for 10am with a view to seeing the bands starting at 11, but the wheels fell off a bit this year - particularly on the Friday after SFA when I hit the hay about 5 minutes after they'd left the stage.
