What's next for S.E corner?

SE corner used to be a dirty little secret, but now it's just stupidly busy. I took up 2 newbies up there this year after bigging it up to them, not impressed, actually felt embarrased I took them to such a crushed up area.

It's "the place to be" now which is half the problem.

Most of the crowd just walk in and pass through without realising all the out of the way places - they just amble along following the person in front....

I think they need to get rid of the bigger venues in Shangri la and also the big name DJs,there's too many people just going because a big act is on, Craig Charles was pointless on Sunday and bring back the weird stuff and little venues.

Only thing identical was the colour! There were a load of new venues this year - Shrinel Richie, Pluto, Posthumanists, Monster Ravers, BNP, Brainwash, House Of Come-Ons, Slumberparty, Squat, U-slip, Shangri-Lati, CND Maze (and venues). I missed SickSickSick and thought it wasn't matched by Snangri-Lati, the only returning venue was Love & Bullets i think

Posthumanism was never actually open, though. We talked to one of the stewards outside and they said it was just office space. Thinking this might just be a ruse we tried opening the door but someone inside quickly shut it on us :(. I was a little disappointed this year I must say, but that's only really because I had the time of my life in the HR Department last year. Whoever was playing the metal in the House of Come-ons Sunday night absolutely nailed it, though. Brainwash was alright (they were playing some absolutely bonkers stuff on Thursday, like nothing I'd ever heard before), as was Kamikaze Karaoke. Shangri-Latti looked cool but I never actually went in. It just seemed a teensy bit tame. More craziness please!

Yeah, I liked it when you just went down and got hit in the face by whatever was there, which might be Orbital, but you didn't go down specifically to see Orbital.

Collectives bid each year for the chance to run a venue (hance a lot of new ones like CND this year) If you think it's lame come up with an idea, submit it and do better.

If they are to keep the layout as is, I think they really need to mix up the variation of the music played there. It's all very samey, and I feel this makes me think the area itself is samey. Personally there's only so much of that I can listen to before I get extremely bored.

I'm not into this 'dance/house/techno' whatever it is so it doesn't massively appeal to me other than when there is a decent act on the Hell a Stage. Only went down for Slaves this year and didn't stay much later.

There really should be an area for more indie/Rock, as opposed to just a few bars and silent discos knocking around.

Absollutely agree.

Even different music ends up sounding the same.  I got into Heaven for Craig Charles on Sunday night, and because it was soooooo bass-heavy you couldn't actually make out any of the soul & funk behind it.  Just ended up being another bassline.

Hell works quite well in its current format (except for the crowd crush), good variety on there.  Wandering from Craig Charles into Zion Train was fun.

Glad I wasn't the only one a bit disappointed with Shangri La this year, other than the Hell Stage which was better than ever and Squat Party which seemed great fun the short time I was in there - when previous few years it's been one of my favourite areas of the fest.

To be fair, I have ended up there a lot the past few years, and didn't actually make it into all of the venues (including Kamikaze Karaoke which sounds highly amusing), and my poorer experience there this time could have been trying to please one or two members of my group who were never likely to love it. Still, hoping for a considerable revamp next year.

I agree variation in music is no bad thing, but more indie and rock? There's scope for so much more, imo.

No I agree, I just used Indie/Rock as an example really.

Just any variation from the god awful repetitive 'pill' music would be more than welcome introduction for many people.

Lovebullets HQ on Sunday was absolutely bouncing. Well worth sacking off the headliners for.

Although, the bar staff seemed to desert the bar at about 11:30 and never returned, not ideal when you're in there 'til 6am and running out of alcohol/water...

Suggestions for bars of the top of my head

 - Prohibition style Speakeasy

 - Juke joint/Dive Bar/Blues bar

 - Bluegrass

 - Northern Soul

 - Cuban

 - Heavy metal

 - Chill out (Lemon Jelly, Bonobo, Grateful Dead, Wes Montgomery, Ravi, Vishwa Bhatt, bourbon etc)

 - New Orleans/Cajun/Creole style

 - Jazz (whatever way that can be interpreted)

All the small bars this year just seemed to be reggae.
