Hard Rock Hell festival used to release the names of a couple of bands a week, they used to give clues on the forum on the Monday and officially announce on the Friday.

Imagine the carnage on here if they did that.

They're dragging their feet with everything this year. People on the Recycling Crew still don't know what shifts they'll be doing, which is really annoying for work and travel purposes. And supposedly it was 1st come 1st served for shifts. And I sent my deposit in straight away, so they should have been able to give me the go-ahead in October last year, or whenever it was I sent it....

This is the thing that's preoccupying me - I sent my cheque in that morning and have been fidgeting ever since. When I look at some of the grander conspiracy theories on here regarding line up reveal, it makes me think of the the relatively shambolic recycling admin, which kind of tells you the real reason. Its a huge organisational task, they are pretty "relaxed" about how they do things, and they are ready when they are ready.

Incidentally, as someone who's being doing it longer than I have, do you tend to get your first choice? I changed my first preference this year for a change and would really like to settle down the idea that I'm doing it.

Do it - The Temple is the b0llocks. Also, while you're in the vicinity, remember to walk behind the waterfall and go in the door.

We only found the common trying to get out of shangrila, I had my photo taken in front of the waterfall and didn't even know you could get behind it

That's what I've read since, we are going to spend much more time up there this year, we just seemed to walk around in circles last year looking at things rather than getting into the music. Had a great time but missed so much

yeah that's what i've tended to do in the past - walk from place to place without actually staying anywhere longer enough to appreciate it. hopefully will stumble upon something that holds my interest this year

Of what the bands that have been announced so far, for me I think we will being seeing more music this time thats for sure.

What time do we think The Common announcement is going to be. I'm going to guess at 3pm purely because alot of announcements have been around that time so far as was the resale yesterday

I think it's The Cave behind the waterfall, if I remember right.

Yes, The Cave, it's not actually that great but worth a look. It's usually rough jungle in there as I remember. The Temple (bullring) is the main event.

The main stage in Shangri La is decent too (Heaven or Hell, I'm not sure!) and Bez's Acid House is a bit basic but good if you get in there at the right time (good DJ and Bez gurning down a microphone - though his appearances can be a bit sporadic!).

    • Electric Callboy just said they'll be touring here next year. I'm not sure there's a poster for it though. I'll look when I'm near some next.      He said we'll see you at Download at a gig before any of the band. Presumably he was trolling. They're in Austria at the moment and Germany tomorrow with a week's break and more shows in Germany. Whilst not impossible to come back here and then go over there again, it seems unlikely.
    • Thomas Partey, knocked back by Canadian immigration now.
    • I'm sure someone can update you on the clashfinder, and it will be pretty accurate by the time the festival comes around. It's a large flat-ish arena with main stage in the open air, no best side I'd say. Leadmill (3rd stage medium tent) is at the back of the main arena, T'Other (2nd stage big tent) 5 min walk round the corner. At full capacity walking around can take a bit more time though. I noticed that The Enemy are scheduled to not fully overlap with Wolf Alice, so you could catch part of their set too.   You can walk around anywhere with a beer, with most bars the usual mass market stuff, but one nice craft ale tent, back of the arena near the Leadmill stage. A main meal will set you back £10-15, but cheaper snacks also available. Expect a pint to be £7-8. Possibly a bit more this year as prices everywhere are increasing.   It's fairly easy to get to from the town centre using the tram, although can be busy at peak times / very busy at curfew. If you like a walk, it's approx 40 mins to Kelham Island (lots of indy venues) and probably an hour to the city, or catch an Uber. There will be loads of 'fringe' music events on around the city right through the weekend. Most are free. Have a wonderful trip, enjoy the festival, and your stay in our city!
    • I think people on a place like this, that clearly value live music more than most, don't. I'd rather an academy than an arena every day. But I could see a few people that care about "the gram" than the actual music wanting an arena experience even if it's a mid sized band.
    • The single worst shout for any slot on any stage in the history of efests. Worse even than the Wursels or The Wombles.    Unlikely I’d be there, but okay with the other two. Boy George is a class act, plus he could DJ in Block 9
