I do quite like the idea of having literally no idea as to who is playing until you unfold the guide they provide on arrival. Maybe next year I will see how little I can find out... I'd imagine it will be impossible to avoid randomly finding out who the headliners are though.

I've never fancied that. Part of the build up to me is going through the line up and pretty much listening to everyone. A lot of the time its how I discover new music.

yeah having to scramble through the lineup deciding who to go and see would be a nightmare (especially as it'd take up most of your Wednesday and Thursday), and then would be incredibly frustrating once home to discover you missed out on an act you'd never heard of before who happens to be amazing. spending days trawling through the lineup discovering new acts is one of the best bits of getting the lineup

obviously i'd like the lineup sooner than later, but that's because i'm impatient. as long as we get it some time before the festival itself, then i'm happy. i also don't like the idea of getting a set lineup date - where would be the incredibly frustrating fun in that?

Agreed, might have worked back in the day when the line up was much smaller... but it's just unfair when there's so much on offer these days! So much research... so little time...

I think they need to make some sort of press release explaining what on Earth has gone on this year, something really isn't sitting right and for the full announcement or even just the big poster to not be out yet. Something BIG must have gone wrong and they can't plead ignorant to the public's worries / theories about it. Especially with ties to big festival forums such as this. I know Neil mentioned he has an idea but isn't saying etc and I'm not trying to get into that I'm just saying I feel they've gone about it badly to not even address the issues. Either way I think the big poster should be Thursday. Otherwise like many others have said we are too close for comfort for research.

The only issue that was alluded to by Neil was that the original third headliner dropped out or backed out pretty late into negotiations, which, if The Who hadn't confirmed it themselves, would have resulted in no third headliner announcement until June.

We can only really speculate on why we don't have a second 'full' poster at this point but it's a bit much to assume that something catastrophic has happened. Maybe they really do just want to give the smaller stages/areas a chance to make announcements so that their line-ups aren't overshadowed by the wave of higher profile acts that will populate the rest of the pyramid, other, WH, etc.

Think this place can be a bit of an echo chamber. My friends haven't even mentioned the fact most of the bands are yet to be announced. Even outside this thread the rest of the lineup is barely mentioned. The fact they have only released 100(!!!) or so bands isn't really that big a deal as most people don't trawl through the lineup as thoroughly as people in this forum do, so I don't think a press release will be forthcoming

(Sorry to pick on your post, it's obviously one of many but was just the latest one on the page)

Yeah I think you're right actually, that is the main issue with it. I have discovered a few (like Kate Tempest) that I would never have known to go and see if I hadn't checked them out. I think actually it would be quite cool to have the whole line up other than the headliners, or even just one headliner.

How about releasing everything bar the five or six main stages in advance? It would largely solve the issue of not being able to check out lesser-known acts but retain the ongoing sense of mystery that some (including Mr Eavis) seem to be after.

yep, i'm pretty sure my friends don't even know Paul Weller is playing, let alone that there's a poster due. in fact, i'm pretty sure a few of them won't even see the poster when it does get released, and will only care about the rest of the lineup once the times are out and it's a few weeks before the festival.

Why the fuckery would they need to make a press release? Who do they need to justify the lineup dates too? Look at the thing, it's not like there's a huge difference.

Moon on a stick some folk. They owe you nothing!!!
