Non-brit here - what's so bad with Hyde Park? And how early you need to get there to get a spot where you can actually see something?

The main problem with HP is the sound. It's next to some very prestigious apartment buildings and the local billionaires complain about the noise, as a result they have to keep it ridiculously low. You either have to get to the very front or stand under a speaker to hear anything.

Then there's the shocking commercialisation of it all. They want to extract as much money as possible from you, there are "VIP" areas where you can be guaranteed a place at the front, you have to pay extra to get in early with a general admission ticket, last time I went in 2012 the bar queues were absolutely obscene for a £6 pint of piss.

In short, don't go unless you're absolutely desperate to see something there.

Just listening to this new album and its really good. Previously didn't want Blur to headline again as didn't think it could top 2009. Now I'd much rather here some of these new songs than the bloody Who knocking out tunes from 45 years ago. (I'll check out The Who 50 later though as don't know many of their songs outside of the half dozen or so well known ones)

Thanks. I wasn't planning too, but I happen to be in Netherlands up until the 17th, so I considered adding a few extra days in London to watch Blur. Guess I'll wait for another chance. Hoping for a major world tour for this record.

I hate it when they have special vip standing areas. I watched Robbie Williams and they had a front pit for a ridiculous amount of money (like 250$ or something). It obviously wasn't all filled (who'll pay that much?), so there was a huge empty gap between the end of the vip area and the front of the general admission. Really embarrassing.

I wonder if we might still get Blur, but opening the Other on the Friday. Damon had told someone that they weren't headlining but "might do something secret".

I do find it curious that in all of Dave's multiple denials, he's always specified headlining in his replies. Could it really be a health+safety issue if they played? I suppose for the demographic of the festival they would be pretty popular for a headliner, but I think it could be a goer because:

* It's Friday morning. Loads of people have been on it for a couple of days, with no massive bands to distract them from getting w*nkered. Anecdotally speaking, I always fail to pace myself the most on the Thursday.

* Word getting round is not the same as being billed. Sure, the efests massive are likely to know who it is before they come on, but the wider festival going public? They won't know. And Blur appear able to keep a secret going by their album release.

* It's The Other Stage. This isn't The Park we're talking about, it's of a comparable size to the R&L main stages. Sure, there are more people on site to fill the arena, but that field can hold a lot of people. You can even hear on the Railway Line.

* Dave keeps denying headlining.

Also if there's a worry about health and safety there's nothing stopping them just moving the secret opener to the Pyramid stage

Why are people assuming there'll automatically be a secret opener?

It's only happened in the last 2 festivals, and neither of them had an act anywhere near the stature of Blur.

I doubt it would be either of them. Way bigger than the previous ones.

I'm not getting dragged into this again, it starts with talk of Blur or the Libertines or inevitably Prince. Then you die a little inside when you get there to discover its Bastille.

It's worth adding that that the stage setup at BST isn't like the "Golden Circle" that did the rounds in Hyde Park and elsewhere about 10-15 ago. You can get a general admission ticket, arrive early and still get to the barrier. Mocking people that paid more to stand a metre or two to your right is optional....!

Yeah this is true. We got right to the front for The National with a GA ticket. Were at the back for Neil Young but near a speaker. It's a shit venue alright but there are ways round it. I'm hoping for cheap Blur tickets to materialise.

Headline news in NME from one simple Tweet. Next week it will be Blur headlining Sunday with Liam coming out to sing Lonesome Street.

Not even the best song on the album never mind of the year. LG strikes again.

It's almost as if both Blur and Noel are enjoying upturns at the moment and he's thought "How can I get in on this? Say they're shit again? Nah, won't work. What was that one song I heard? I know I'll say it's great."

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
