Bit weird the DnB night is on IICON and Arcadia on the same night

Ha, indeed. I'll be happily ensconced in The Temple. (Although Storm is one of the original Metalheadz, so that'll actually be a good closer).

Funnily enough, I'll be in Nevada that weekend. Was hoping they were gonna resurrect Life is Beautiful or the Beautiful Block Party but both seem to have been cancelled. A real shame. LIB was a lot of fun.

It's nice to see a lot of the US electronic festivals are no longer just rudimentary EDM. Some really nice stuff on there, particularly Sunday. Sadly, my flight home is on 27/09. Weirdly, I've gone Saturday in, Saturday out this time. Hoping to get to the Tomorrowland/Insomniac event at the Sphere while I'm in town though

So now that we've had a little time to digest things, how are we all feeling about the line up? The only poster drop that made me think "wow" was The Glade, there's so much on there it could it's own little festival.

Got to admit that the drops of Arcadia, Block 9 and even Silver Hayes left me feeling a bit meh, they were OK without anything really standing out.

Then I gave my head a little wobble and realised a big part of that is the familiarity, lots of those acts I've seen before or have appeared at the festival in the past few years and that in itself shouldn't be a reason to be less excited, there's plenty of DJs there I'd have an amazing time at.

I know I'd have a hell of a time watching Joy Orbison, Sherelle, Ki/Ki, DJ Boring, HAAI, Derrick Carter, Jayda G, Nia Archives, Job Jobse, Palm Trax, Four Tet, Goldie, Dan Shake and Barry Can't Swim to name a few.

Combine that with the acts who I'm either yet to have seen or are newly discovered from digging through the line up.....

Amelie Lens, Imogen, Ben Sims, Bullet Tooth, Oppidan, Notion, Shy FX, Interplanetary Criminal, Kettama, Mochakk, Deep Dish, MJ Cole, Tommy Holohan, Calibre, Skream and Benga, Chloe Caillet, Anz, OK Williams, Yung Singh, Logic 1000.

There's a hell of a lot to get excited about! It's going to be a stellar year as always!

Similarly for me, no single line up had me jumping for joy across the board, but each one had a few nuggets that definitely got me excited - and ultimately that is what we are looking at, the combination of acts across the stages is pretty mind blowing and I can’t think of anywhere that would compete in terms of strength and breadth of line up (even if trance and hard trance are still being ignored).

we have something like 80% crossover on my current long list, makes me think I should check out the other 20%

Happy with the lineup but all depends on when/where they’re on.

I’m mostly disappointed the Temple have moved techno night to the Sunday (for the second year in a row 🙄), but that’s just me needing to be in a fit state to drive home 😂

I agree with your comment on the "wow" factor for most areas this year and yes, The Glade definitely takes that crown in 2025. That said, with such a strong lineup this year on paper, I am concerned that it might actually be too busy over there to be really enjoyable. As much as I adored the original Glade, it's never been the largest or open of areas, even after the revamp and there are some big-hitters that are going to attract a lot of people. So space might be an issue. As might sound bleed, if you're trapped in the outer areas between both stages. I guess my point is that "names" can often result in other issues. They've clearly tried to drag numbers away from the south east corner this year, but might they have overdone it? The Glade's lineup this year is arguably worthy of its own festival.

There might not be the instant impact of posters from years gone by (particularly on Arcadia and Shangri-La) but if you break down each area and jot down who you'd want or like to see, you'll be left with an unmanageable list of names, as always. And that's before you dig further into the lineup, when you stumble across previously unknown (that turn out to be your new favourite) artists, lurking under the surface, waiting to be discovered!

Beyond it all though, it's all about the vibe, isn't it? The Temple, Genosys, IICON, The Glade, NYCDL, Arcadia: even if they had a year of unknown acts playing, it would still be as good as any party on the planet. When it comes to electronica, I think we all probably place too much importance on names. Sure, there are a handful of artists that have skills above and beyond others, but a lot of the time, we're probably too locked-in to notice or appreciate it.

It's going to be another banger, lads.

I echo this, pretty much word for word.

As boringly repeated by me too often, I'm a night-time dancer. So, I only really need to fill my schedule from midnight onwards, though I usually have one of Fri-Sun when I pass on the main stage headliners and head somewhere (usually the SEC) for a 10pm start.

On that basis, whilst I concur with the 'big hitter' observations, I've more than enough to ensure I get four great nights, programming-willing.

Artists on my list, subject to when and where they play include:

Adiel

Marie Davidson

Radioactive Man

Roza Terenzi

Richie Hawtin

Amelie Lens

Joy Orbison

Daniel Avery b2b IMOGEN

Eli Brown

Mathew Jonson

Tommy Holohan

ATRIP

IMOGEN (her solo set on Genosys could be 'the one')

KI/KI

Denham Audio b2b Rebekah Abdeen

Ben Sims

Altern8

And I still need to do a deeper dive into the areas and 'smaller' names.

As @Supernintendo Chalmers says, it's all about the time/place/crowd/vibe. What I really love the most is finding a set away from the big, popular draws (e.g. when Four Tet is 'shutting down' IICON, etc), where you've got a group of really dedicated ravers who are there to dance, share the experience, get really into it, and limit talking to the occasional word or two to look into each others' eyes and say "how f**king good is this?!".

It's going to be awesome, team. But, by golly, we need the full line-up drop! This time next week I expect there to be plenty of the best posts of the year, when people share their dance schedules. I blood love seeing those - especially the serious dance heads who are at dance sets all day and night!

Does anybody know whether this will be a live set or a DJ set? Their live show at Primavera 2019 was epic.

Has it already been confirmed elsewhere that The Temple on Sunday night will be techno?

Would love to catch KI/KI there but am afraid there's gonna be massive demand and queues for her.

A beautifully eclectic set from Juan Atkins (main man of Cybotron) from Tresor. Packed with leftfield techno and electro. This is exactly the sort of stuff that IICON has traditionally been known for. He will slay the place. I hope he gets a peak time slot - many/most ravers at Glastonbury will know little about the true origins of techno, and he deserves a big crowd.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Given that the IICON poster clearly lists Paranoid London as live. and Blawan as a DJ set, you'd think that they're playing a DJ set. Live would be awesome, of course.

Ben Sims has confirmed that he's playing on the Sunday, and that fits with last year's epic closing night. Of course, this is Glastonbury, so programming can be all over the place! But, I think I'd expect KI/KI to be Sunday as well. Last year, the only techno there was in The Temple was on the final night.

KI/KI is in Belgium on Friday (check out the Paradise City lineup btw), so it does look like Sunday night will be the techno extravaganza that it was last year. Certainly stacks up with artist announcements so far. I'd be very surprised if it's not. I know I'll essentially be sprinting from the Other over to the Temple to set up camp for the night on Sunday

Thanks! I hope that means it'll be easier to get in The Temple since people may be knackered by Sunday night.

There's definitely an element of that. I don't think it was too difficult to get into the Temple on the Sunday night last year (though I was in by about 2215h 😆) and the queue moves quickly. The crowd last year was really good too - committed ravers determined to have one last party for that year's festival.

I have to admit that I almost certainly won't be at the Other Stage (don't @ me!) and so can see a repeat plan whereby I target the beginning of the first set I want to see - last year it was Manni Dee at 2230h. I'll probably be at The Maccabees, so the early Park finish plus a quick hop across Pennards and through to Cabaret should be easy peasy whilst the bigger main stages are still a way off finishing.

Given my long-documented sadness at the sacking off of psytrance Thursday/Sunday at Glastonbury, I'm always on the lookout for at least a little trance fix.

Eli Brown is playing Glade Dome and should be bringing his high energy tech-trance stuff. It can be a little bit big-room-drops at times, but is nicely propulsive tech-trance, even with a soupçon of psy sounds sprinkled in.

Hoping for a nighttime set from him - Thursday night would be perfect - as it would be wasted at 7pm in the light.

    • Right, I know this is going to divide opinion more than a secret set announcement, but it’s time we settled the most important question in festival history: What is the best sauce?   I’ve spent years researching this. Years. Countless meals. Countless food stalls. Countless chips consumed in fields while standing in a queue for a toilet that looked like it had survived several geological eras. And after all that, I still find myself returning to the same question.   Is it ketchup? No. Not like him.   Is it mayonnaise? No. Not like him.   Is it garlic mayo? Closer. But not like him.   Is it sweet chilli? A respectable contender. Yet still not like him.   Is it curry sauce? Potentially. But also not like him.   The turning point in my sauce journey came at Glastonbury. Specifically, near the legendary Goan fish curry stall. There I was, covered in approximately six different layers of dust, sunscreen, and regret, enjoying one of the greatest festival meals ever created. The sauce situation was immaculate. Balanced. Complex. Life-affirming.   Meanwhile, nearby, I witnessed something that permanently altered my understanding of both festivals and humanity.   A man was watching Slowdive with a crutch up his bum.   Not metaphorically. Not spiritually. Not artistically.   Actually standing there, watching Slowdive, with a crutch up his bum. And as I looked at him, silhouetted against the evening sky while dreamy guitars echoed across the field, I realised something important. The best sauce should aspire to greatness. Not like him. It should bring people together. Not like him. It should enhance the experience. Not like him. It should complement the main event. Not like him. It should be memorable. Though admittedly, like him. But preferably not like him.   This brings me to the Bucket Classification System.   For those unfamiliar, sauces can be divided into three categories.   Bucket I. Bucket I is the elite tier. The headliners. The sauces that could close the Pyramid Stage on a Sunday night and nobody would complain. These are sauces that elevate food beyond its natural limitations. A good garlic mayo belongs in Bucket I. A properly executed festival curry sauce belongs in Bucket I. Certain chilli sauces belong in Bucket I. The sauce equivalent of arriving at your tent and discovering someone has actually put it up correctly. Not like him.   Bucket II. Bucket II is respectable. Reliable. Dependable. Not spectacular, but solid. This is where standard ketchup often lives. A decent BBQ sauce. A reasonable burger sauce. The sort of sauces that show up, do their job, and go home. Unlike him. Not like him. Very much not like him.   Bucket III. Now we enter dangerous territory. Bucket III is where disappointing sauces go. Watery sauces. Sauces that taste vaguely of administrative errors. Sauces that appear to have been diluted with rainwater collected from a collapsed gazebo. The sauces that make you question your choices. The sauces that look at a perfectly good portion of chips and think, “How can I make this worse?” Like the butter chicken sauce I got served at the We Are Stupid Dosas stand. Or the sizzling beef burrito served with potato wedge sauce. These belong in Bucket III. Not like him. Although possibly exactly like him. It’s difficult to say.   I think the real test of a sauce is whether you’d cross a festival site specifically to get it. Would you leave your friends? Would you miss part of a set? Would you navigate through crowds of people dressed as bananas, pirates, and traffic cones? Would you walk from one side of the site to the other? If the answer is yes, then we’re talking Bucket I territory. If the answer is maybe, we’re looking at Bucket II. If the answer is no, straight into Bucket III. No appeal. No review process. No exceptions. Not like him.   I return often to that moment at the Goan fish curry stall. The food. The atmosphere. The music. The philosophical questions. The mysterious Slowdive spectator. Some people search for meaning in books. Some search for meaning in religion. Some search for meaning in art. I search for meaning in sauce rankings. Not like him.   And every year the evidence grows. Every year Bucket I becomes more refined. Every year Bucket II becomes more competitive. Every year Bucket III becomes more crowded.   And every year I remember the man watching Slowdive with a crutch up his bum and remind myself that while festival experiences may vary wildly, good sauce remains eternal.   Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him. Not like him.   So my current rankings are: Bucket I: Garlic mayo Proper curry sauce Premium chilli sauce Exceptional festival-exclusive mystery sauces   Bucket II: Ketchup BBQ sauce Burger sauce Sweet chilli   Bucket III: The watery unidentified substances occasionally found beside chips Anything described as “light” but tasting of sadness Any sauce that somehow makes food drier Sizzling beef burrito     Debate below. And before anyone asks: no, the crutch was not a sauce. At least I hope not. Not like him.
    • Now we're over for another year - headliner predictions time: Phoebe Bridgers Rosalia Bjork Doechii The Strokes Tame Impala Massive Attack   And the reunion band: Boards of Canada
    • €245->275 + fees early bird for 2025 ticket holders €265->295 + fees for non-2025 ticket holders My guess is they add a lot (another 30 euros) but keep it under 300 for the optics.
    • Any guesses for 2027 early bird ticket prices? I'm gonna say €290.
    • That is very, very impressive. That’s about twice as much as me!   My first Primavera, so there’s a lot to process, but I will try and review properly later.   Lots of highs and lows (and a whole city to explore) completely wiped me out, but some incredible memories made.
