what do you think is missing?

Well Block9 just released lineup and there’s no Bicep, my big personal discovery of 2024 (yes I’ve been under a rock), and desperately wanted to see again, who can I discover this year to make up for my disappointment?

Really poor year for electronic music IMO.

The worst in years.

I guess they can't please everyone. For me its stella far more acts I really want to see than in recent years

There was zero chance of Bicep appearing again after last year.

It's good I think there's loads there for me. It's a shame to see FBS taking up space on Genosys. Paranoid London on IICON will be loads of fun. Blawan too.

So...

I don't wanna be all 'underground-curmudgeon', but FBS on Genosys is taking the piss! I get that he's a nice enough bloke and wants to play 'all' the stages, but he really has no business being in Block9!

Overall, the drop is decent, whilst not stellar. I don't need 'names', I need quality! Craig Richards should be fantastic on Genosys, and I can see IMOGEN being my set of the weekend. I'm so pleased to see her there, given my slightly love-hate relationship with the new Glade, as previously discussed.

Confidential Recipe will be good too, and Hannah Holland is a very interesting selector. Partok was excellent closing Genosys on the Saturday night last year...but he plays a lot, and Placid plays every year! I think it's tough, as they programme Genosys from 6pm and IICON from 8pm, and there are often pretty empty fields at that time, so it must be slightly tricky to get artists for those slots, maybe.

IICON is a bit of a curate's egg this year. As @Supernintendo Chalmers says, Sub-Focus? It's not that stages should be exclusive to only one or two genres, but that's just plain weird. And I wouldn't mind, if techno/electro/breaks/Trance were represented well elsewhere. But DnB is bloody everywhere on site!

Obviously Blawan (by gods, he owes me a set on the Farm...) is the big hitter for techno, and Cybotron will be amazing. Paranoid London were great on Levels. Just give me another 5-10bpm, boys, and you will be fab on the Big Head.

And, why did we have to get that third of Hessle? I'd have loved BUFO or Pangaea!

I'm happy enough and really looking forward to the full drop. I can see myself doing plenty of miles over the site getting from set to set, and will be excited to find some little gems to insert in the schedule.

Very impressed with the house and techno on offer. Looking back through past line ups this one is miles in front for me 🙌

Hi @Maccajag

Not sure there's a lot of proper techno in today's drop. I mean, some, and it's good, but compared to last year...!

Dare I say perhaps the Afternoon Block 9 session might to apease those who after who aftee the headliners do a a lap of the South East corner and then leave.

Put some names on that they think these people like let them check it put earlier in the day, reduce people traffic later?

Just a theory

No, I think you might be right.  Allows the box tickers to tick the box.

I was thinking more of minimal techno/tech house tbh... Deep dish (Twice!!) Richie Hawtin, CC, Craig Richards, Danilo Plessow, Troxler, Enzo, Smokin Jo, Margaret Dygas, Mathew Jonson, Dyed Soundorom adds up to much more big hitters in that department than I expected for which I'm very happy about

Sorry, I thought you were only really referring to the Block9 drop!

Yep, across the whole festival there's lots of quality. Nice call on Mathew Jonson - hoping his Glade Dome set is at a really good time for me.

I’ve got no problem being a curmudgeon. You’re right he really shouldn’t be on Genosys.

Please point it out as I’m seeing shockingly little, although I may just not know names. I don’t mean that “jump up” shite.

When did DnB stop being DnB and transform into far too fast, no change in tempo, no lovely female vocals, no imagination SHITE?

After a bit more evaluation, across Genosys and IICON, I'll be shortlisting:

Craig Richards

Lance Desardi (Live)

Michelle Manetti

Confidential Recipe

Paranoid London

Blawan

Cybotron

and might give Pearson Sound a go!

Add that to what we already have, especially with Sunday in the Temple looking like potential all-timer, and it's gonna be superb!

Could one of the thread DnB-ers signpost Mr Skip to the pantheon of DnB in the line-up so far - and, as he intimates, the good stuff. Ta!

Out of reactions so this will have to do

👍

Apparently what I like is what they call “liquid DnB”, also partial to a bit of old school Jungle

When it comes to that genre we sound like we have a similar taste so 4am Kru might be up your street, can't remember what stage but somewhere in silver hayes. I'm sure others with more knowledge will chip in with more.

    • It’s probably fairly easy to stay in a hotel but I much prefer the camping set up. It was pretty quiet where we camped but a longer walk to the arena but the weather was nice so not a problem. There’s also a lake you can camp by. Once we got off the tube/train we walked down the main road and turned right (festival site is left) and camped down there.    Do you think? They do have water points inside the arena & where I camped there were toilets, showers & water points super close. I think if you time it right the RiP stage is so easy to get close to the front. Second stage is decent & a like the indoor arena for bands on the 3rd stage. I think all the stages sound better than Downloads too, always had issues with the 2nd stage at Download being too quiet. Even main at some points.
