  1. Fleetwood Mac wouldnt even come close to this. Seen them at IOW and meh - simply dont have the same multi generational awareness as EJ, Macca or the Stones.
  2. Not watching one of the bigger headliners is a tip I give if anyone asks - allows you to see the rest of the site in some semblance of calm for a couple hours.
  3. For me the Glastonbury Free Press auction is probably the best value. Tickets plus a completely unique and personal memento of the festival that you can keep forever.
  4. There are plenty of professionals who charge £100 - £200 per hour for their work time, so that works out at £2,400 - £4,800 for a whole bunch of people.
  5. Honestly that sounds fucking horrific - i actually dread getting through on the phone!
  6. Sure the ingredients for FFAF probably cost about £1. But they need to pay someone to cook them, they need to buy fuel to cook it with, they need to pay someone to serve you, they need to pay their pay their pitch fee, they need to pay VAT, they need to pay their rent / commission to Glastonbury, they need to pay off their investment in their equipment and pay for future repairs and replacement kit, and god forbid they should try and take maybe 5-10% profit for standing in a field for 18 hours a day over 5 - 7 days whilst everyone around them is having the time of their life.
  7. Enjoying all the old veterans moaning about how the music is all aimed at younger people. Erm, yeah, that's generally how music and music festivals work. Remember when you were 20 and you started going to Glasto cos all the music felt like it was targetted at you.... In terms of the price, whilst it does feel like a hike, the reality is that the last ticket price was announced 3 years ago, and we have had rampant inflation since then, so it was always going to show as a big hike. I think the graph is great, although i think that the 2022 data point should be in 2020 as that is when the festival was priced to happen, and doing that would smooth out the increase somewhat. It is sad that some people who have gone a lot can no longer afford it, but that is also the world we live in. We can't all afford to everything that we want to, and the current shit show of a government are making it so that everyone is finding everything harder - as CFool said, make your vote count.
  8. Has there been an announcement that they are cutting B&W?
  9. Were my mum and dad largely unaware of Nirvana in 1990 - yes, yes they were. As were all of my parents friends. Oh they will have heard the music and told their kids to "turn that bloody shit off" - they might have even heard about them on the news. But did they give a shit about them, were they their heroes? No.
  10. But isn't that because both Music and the Festival have evolved. If Emily of today was booking acts in the 80s/90s, then all of those would be spoken about as headliners. Madge still is discussed pretty regularly as are, their modern equivilants: For Madonna see Gaga. For Cher see T Swizzle. For MJ see Bruno Mars. All of whom could headline if they wanted to.
  11. If i stand in a room full of my mates (all around 40 yrs old) Billie Eillish will get the reaction that p.pete describes above. However, if i am stood in a room of 12 - 18 year olds (unsurprisingly i'm not) then i think you will find the reaction to be very different. Also, Glastonbury costs £500 minimum, its unaffordable to the vast majority of kids / teens, so the "room" we are all talking about is very much a room full of 40 year olds. This whole thread feels very much like a bunch of old people just not knowing who todays heroes are.
  12. Nothing like a bit of ageism to get you in the mood for a festival. I've been to plenty of festivals and met plenty of older irritating and selfish people - its not something that is unique to younger people. This will be our 3rd Victorious and, the crowd is younger than other festivals we go to, but never had any trouble from kids enjoying themselves. Yeah the kids will be drunk and loud and enjoying themselves, just like the should at a festival. Suggest if you don't enjoy being around young people having fun then festivals aren't really for you.
  13. Oh-oo-oh, you think you're special
  14. 1999 and 2000 I went. Most of our group of 17/18 yr olds stayed pretty much at our campsite up near the pylon at the back of the main stage. Could see and hear the main stage but certainly wasn’t sat there watching the acts. From memory, I actually went and watched Ash and REM. Spent the rest of the weekend working my way through a massive block of soap bar. Great weekends both.
  15. What are peoples thoughts on Tracy Chapman?
  16. Hmmn. Kind of but they are not exactly a contemporary dance act, but for me - they are more synth pop rather than a full on electronic dance act like them Chems or one of the "Superstar DJ's". I disagree that its DP or bust. There are lots of dance acts and DJ's that headline large festivals around the world and sell out large arenas and stadiums on a regular basis. The likes of Swedish House Mafia, DeadMau5, Above and Beyond plus DJ's like Calvin Harris, Fatboy Slim, David Guetta all (IMO) have the status and the show to headline - the real issue is that Glasto are unlikely to pay the headline fees that these guys would command and they don't seem to want to go in that direction.
  17. I think they really missed a trick this year in not having a big name electronic act on the Other as a headliner one night. Particularly given the fact that you had Calvin Harris & Fatboy onsite ready to go, plus the Chems planned to be onsite, Prodigy touring and Bicep. Any one of them could have packed the Other for a night.
  18. Run DMC would be another who fit this kind of bill - i'd be there for either. Run DMC at IOW a few years back was great fun. Why on earth not. A catalogue of bangers and veritable legends. Perfect fit IMO. I think you might need to look up when TT and SG were about. It was deffo not the eighties.
  19. Well stay on your course then and stop trying to ruin mine 😉 Sound on LHC was hit and miss - for Sherelle it was great, for Wilkinson it was awful. I liked the look of the Gully Blues but the new layout of the whole space works so much better with each stage having a bit more space of its own.
  20. Are you kidding me! Lonely Hearts was awesome and the larger Sonic was brilliant and allowed for some bigger names to play, the lighting in Wow was great. Silver Hayes stepped up massively this year and you want to bin it all off!
  21. Thursday and Friday went pretty perfectly, a good mix of wandering and catching acts that we were really into. Saturday night was the big regret for me. We left Macca pretty much just before he bought Dave Grohl on. Lots of the group we were with were moaning that it was a bit shit (no hits / beatles stuff etc) and there were loads of chatters around us, so whilst up to that point, it had been at best "ok" i knew it was gonna get better 😉, regardless, I agreed with the Mrs that we would head up to Arcadia as we hadn't been up there before and we both wanted to see Calvin Harris. Caught the end of Kurrupt FM up there and then Four Tet who were both decent and seeing the Spider for the first time was awesome, but Calvin Harris was awful so we binned it off after about 20 minutes anyway. The worst bit was that to get from Macca to Calvin we walked straight past Silver Hayes where Overmono were playing a live set and I reckon we would have loved that. Sunday was a bit of a right off - both of us were feeling pretty tired and ill (tested positive when we got home) so just packed up and then went to watch DiRo from way back on the hill before heading home to watch Kendrick on the TV. As a non Kendrick fan, i actually think that was the best way to see him, as you could appreciate a bit more of the theatrics than if you were stood there in the field. Can't complain though - very rarely gonna make the right choice everytime.
  22. Not even joking but i would sign up for that level of skillz
  23. Yeah what was that bout - i know Arcadia has a reputation for poor sound, but we stood and listened to Kurupt FM and then Four Tet and the sound was fine, then they seemed to turn it down for Calvin Harris, who opened with radio edits of his tunes that were, well radio edits. Gave it 3 / 4 songs and fucked off.
