Ha !

Years ago I went round America on the train and had an overnight stop in Minneapolis. Checked into a B&B and told the guy there I was intending going into down town to check out the bars.

I was told that whilst it was ok to walk into downtown under no circumstances was I to walk back and to catch a cab for my own personal safety.

The walk into downtown was pretty straightforward down a long main road , it was busy, plenty of shops open , petrol stations open and the odd police car cruising by - never felt safer and thought I had been given duff advice by a neurotic local.

Anyways the end of the night came and I wondered around for a bit but no cabs - I went back to the bar and asked where I could get a cab . He came back with the response

"Elton John is playing the arena tonight and it seems all the cabs have gone there for the rich pickings "

I thought I aint waiting for ever and a nice walk back would sober me up and save me the cab fare. Well things had changed. ! - There was no traffic on the main road , every shop was shut up and it looked pretty dodgy. Then I kept passing people on street corners who were certainly not there when I walked in , approaching another street corner I had ten pairs of eyes staring at me and when a couple of em started heading in my direction to sort of walk with me , I just legged it - I ran all the way back in the middle of the road , took a left hand turn at speed and jumped the fence into the garden of the B&B .

Was it a Saturday night?

I reckon you'd have been alright.

No one else raised an eyebrow at the NME caning their article about why she should headline? Worthy HQ buttering people up.

Irrespective of the depth/quality/variety of fun times the headliner gets a lot of attention and in many ways defines the festival. Who plays West Holts - with all due respect - is never going to contribute to the festival's PR blitz when details are announced.

I await the response from the meejah masses when Coldplay and Florence are announced. The whiff of bullshite will be unmistakeable.

Elton closing would be delightful, not a massive fan but that set list someone posted is pretty good all round. Maybe I am a fan.

I think the Foo's is almost as bland of a booking as everyone is saying Coldplay is if it does turn out that way though. No doubt play a really long set and only play a handful of their most popular songs.

No such thing round here. The soulless Nal has already expressed is lack of interest in his Dwightness playing.

The Elton positivity has only come about due to these Coldplay, Flo, Foos rumours. Elton is a 3am bird. He'll do I suppose. But there won't be people singing his songs back to him at the end like Satisfaction for the Stones. It'll be a splash and dash.

elton john is another act who a few years ago people would have roared with laughter at the very thought.

Now people are hailing him as the second coming. Just goes to show the utter lack of plausible headliners I suppose.

It's only a matter of time before the likes of george michael are yearned for.

wait... George Michael ISN'T at the top of everybody's wishlist? well shit - i'd always assumed he was like Prince in that we couldn't talk about him headlining, except that people stuck by the rule because he'd be a billion times better than Prince

Stupid deaf people who had bought into his negative image that the rockists had him portrayed as maybe.

Yes it's just what the festival has been crying out for. Candle in the wind wafting over the fields while slow motion sentimental footage of diana princess of hearts plays on the big screens.

a real glastonbury "moment"

that's brilliant russy.

So brilliant I'm going to have Scott save it, to use in an efests article if it does turn out to be Elton. :)

hypothetically if Florence, Foo Fighters and Coldplay are the headliners that's three headliners who would probably be fine with accepting the lowered Glastonbury headlining fee

ergo - more money to spend across the board, reckon the undercard could be strong this year.
