very much getting the feeling its going to be an average / cheap(er) headliner year but with very much a stronger than average undercard this year.

i think its about time the festival went back to being not so much all about the headliners again. after a few consecutive years with the headliners being pretty much all anyone has been talking about

I know they're not rare or anything but I think it's being forgotten too easily that Foo Fighters and Coldplay are absolutely massive headliners. There are very few realistic (or unrealistic) ones that are bigger.

Have we ruled out Kylie guys? She's doing BST on the 21st so she's definitely around yeah? I (try) to keep up with this thread but you all move way too fast for me to read every single post so sorry if it's been discussed already. Cheers!

Most (inc me) won't be surprised to see her perform, in fact I think she will, but as for headlining - we think that ship has sailed. Subbing won't surprise.

I hate to see the word 'worthy' thrown around like Glastonbury is some sort of sacred holy ground that only the very 'worthiest' of acts are allowed to play.

And if it's going to be used in terms of that, a graduation to worthiness and headlining, then surely of them Florence deserves it the most

this is a glastonbury forum and a lot of people have been going to the festival for years and years, and in some cases for their whole life. Is it really so difficult to understand that some people feel passionate and protective about the festival?

No, of course not. But when those people spout absolute bollocks & think they have a right to determine who's 'worthy' of playing it irritates me.

No it isn't, get some goddamn perspective, man!

This.

At least Flo has some interaction with the crowd, rather than dimming the lights and talking quietly among themselves for a minute or so between songs. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but she wouldn't be Mumfords level dullness.

Agreed!! I don't think its us lot that get to pass judgement on who is worthy of headlining, that's Michael & Emily's job!! They clearly know what they are doing, having run the biggest music festival in the world for 40+ years...

Also, I really don't get the whole thing about Foos being "uninspiring"... They are one of the biggest bands in the world, they have never headlined Glastonbury before, they have been around for 20 years, they sell out stadiums and they are awesome live. As a booking I think they are pretty solid!

They're bog standard chug rock for the most part. But they're better than Kasabian or Kings of Leon. Or the Killers.

Taylor Swift is as good as those bands too. They're all fairly shite.

people just want glastonbury to book acts that are a bit different from the norm, because they think glastonbury is different from the norm.

I cant see the harm in shooting for the stars.

It is though! Theres a depressing lack of posts on the forum regarding - say - West Holts or Acoustic Tent acts for example. Such diverse stages. So many possibilities, yet the festival is shit because we're not getting Rock or Bust by AC/DC or some dull old sad bastard cynical Fleetwood Mac gig?

As long as theres something interesting on elsewhere they can have Gary Glitter headlining for all I care.

The 3 Pyramid headliners have a wider impact that just the sets they play. They are an indicator of the festival as a whole. The diversity across the entire site is often reflected in the diversity of the headliners over the last few years. Rock n Roll, indie, dance, rap, RnB, metal, soul - from up and coming acts, through established acts to outright legends.

There will always be something interesting on somewhere on site and those who've been before know this but a lot of people who don't go to the festival only really look at the 3 names at the top of the bill. Bland headliners will start to attract a bland crowd.

I dont disagree but the west holts thread is really boring....I prefer this one as it's more feisty and you get to call people tits etc.

I think it's the emphasis on the SE corner that's attracted the blander crowd rather than the pyramid headliners anyway.

I disagree, very few people I speak to who want to go to Glastonbury or who are going for the first time know much about the SE corner really. Or if they do its more something they've heard recommended and want to check while they're there.
