i'd just like to point out that in my case it is definitely musical snobbery. so much so that i'm close to liking them ironically.

beat me to it. they may have a fantastic show (that's what their fans are always spouting in their defence anyway) but that live show is filled with shite songs, and will continue to be so unless they somehow release some magnum opus that has everybody floored (but unfortunately for Kasabian, their 'magnum opus' is and probably will always be their first record. all downhill from there). they'll stand the test of time for as long as they're around, but nobody's gonna look back at musical or Glastonbury history and say 'man, Kasabian really nailed it'

me and my friend watched the Eez-Eh video a ridiculous amount of times purely to laugh, so much so that i ended up having the song drilled in to my head and found myself singing it on occasion. won't be making that mistake again!

I'd say 'West Ryder....' is their best but it's a good point. Amazed they've become so big.

I feel like their first album attempted the 'soundtrack to a great night out' mix of rock and dance that Screamadelica achieved. The main difference is that Screamadelica sounds like the soundtrack to the best night ever, whereas Kasabian's album sounds like an awful, miserable night where tanked up cokeheads in tracksuit tops spill their beer all over you.

i haven't actually listened to that album in a long long time so i might be painting it with rose tinted glasses... but i'm still certain it's better than anything that came after it

I'd say 'West Ryder....' is their best but it's a good point. Amazed they've become so big.

it's their bravado. they wanted to be big so they just fucking went and did it. fair play to them really. i'm interested to see if their next album (or, well... first single) is as hilarious as Eez-Eh is. only a band with some huge misplaced egos on them could think that song was suitable to represent their new album

Gotta say Wooderson; this reads a lot like you reckon the only reason Swift or Florence and the Machine (two completely different artists) would get booked is, not because they can fill out the aforementioned massive crowds, but because they're women and the press will report on how they look.

Not my intention guv. When the announcement hits theyre hardly going to be focussing on yet another Coldplay performance are they? Foos have played everywhere - its a non story.

Emily E will focus all her hype to lack of female headliners in the past and her excitement at seeing how Welch/Swift will get on. She won't be making references to their attire of course - but the press will following their appearance at the fest. Do you doubt the press will make such comments?

Also I encourage the festival to book either of these acts. If the best they can up with is another pathetic Coldplay nod anything else is noteworthy and at least "interesting" and "new". I think Florence could do with a Other Stage/2nd last on Pyramid appearance first and don't see why Swift can't make do with a big spot like Lana Del Rey or Lady Gaga occupied for their appearances in the past. That said, both can headline. No doubt it my mind that they are a polarising booking. As would Kylie or Madonna - both of whom would by my preference.

Not saying it's happening here as I don't think it is but a lot of acts like Kasabian get their name thrown in the dirt because of the following they attract. That is a kind of snobbery isn't it? Dismissing bands because of their following?

see now this i don't believe. i genuinely think they thought they were pushing the boundaries with their new album. i think they even said so in interviews beforehand, and although i haven't heard the album myself, i'm led to believe it is, for the most part, laughable. their doesn't seem to be any snigger when it comes to their own music - i think they take it all very seriously, even when repeating 'being watched by Google'

As for dismissing a band because of their following, that's snobbery. I've not done that. I've said they attract arseholes to gigs, but that didn't stop me from going to see them and I certainly didn't dismiss them. I don't think many others have dismissed them either due to their fans. They might have said something about their fans though.
