Sorry Ben I'm only briefly looking at this, It moves too fast for me to keep up with completely as I'm fairly busy.

I understand where your coming from and see your point.

I just think that music is generally popular for a reason. Whether that's because it's made available to them by the radio or not (obviously it plays a factor). The radio wouldn't play music if they didn't think it would be popular, hence they cant just play any old tripe and within a few years the artist is headlining festivals.

If a band is closing glastonbury it is for good reason. Not a lot of people get that chance. Yeah, there's people who aren't going to like them but they certainly aren't a shite band, that's for sure.

So theres never been a shite Glastonbury headliner?

Like genuinely shite, not just a band whos appeal is, erm, selective.

The size of an act is an objective matter determined by facts.

Whether or not an act is 'shite' is a subjective matter determined by personal taste.

I hope that's cleared up your confusion.

Whilst that's probably true some of the time, it's not all of the time.

Trouble is, all of this is based pretty much entirely on subjectivity, and therefore it's impossible to be completely correct or incorrect. For example - I'm not a Mumfords fan. They get a LOT of stick on here. I don't think they're shite. I think they're a highly proficient band, good musicians, with a USP and decent songwritingm much of the time. they just don't do it for me. I think Kasabian are really poor. In my opinion, their songwriting is awful. Their lyrics and themes are laughable and infantile. Their public persona is try hard and fake. They have no regard for where they sit, compared to their peers past and present. They have a ridiculously inflated opinion of their own quality, and thus no respect for infintely more talented artists who don't just get 'on it'! Am I being a snob - well only in as much as to me, the artists should have integrity and insight and respect for the trade they're in. I don't see that in Kasabian.

I think they're incredibly fortunate to have tapped into a market of lower/lowest common denominator pub rock, and happend to have made it big time. But they're rubbish, really. They're the musical equivalent of Taken 2 and 3. There's just no need for them!

Anyway, horses for courses, eh?!

So how are they a huge band who will appeal to a massive proportion of the festivals crowd is they are shite?

Are you saying a massive proportion of the people at glastonbury have a shite taste in music? I'm just confused.

almost everything that is popular with the the masses is shite.

TV - the voice is the most popular telly program. It's shite.

Books - 50 shades of grey was a massive best seller. It's shite.

Music - Coldplay sell shitloads of albums and sell out stadiums. They are shite.

Do you see?

Most people are shite, that's why they like shite. If you didnt already realise this, then you yourself are one of the shite ones.

horses for courses indeed, ben.

struggling to establish that line between opinions and facts again.

What makes a band shite? Massive amount of fans around the world, countless awards won, headlined some of the biggest festivals in the world?

If so then I agree, Coldplay are shite.

I don't see anything wrong with having no regard for where you sit compared to your peers. Not sure why they should give a shit to be honest.

That would be fine if they didn't suffer the delusion of thinking that they were the bee's pyjamas, and that other much more talented artists are below them. As I said, insight...
