Well, my son becomes a teenager tomorrow and I promised him last month that the line-up would "definitely, definitely, definitely" be out in time for his birthday. I'm slowly teaching him that life is full of disappointments 🤣11 points

Ever stopped to think why they were not there? Listen to female artists when they talk about how they are treated. This is still happening in 2024. You can't just pretend that in the whole of the UK women just didn't want to make bands or didn't make them. Times haven't "changed". What has changed is our awareness of the historical mistreatment that UK female acts have endured and still endure. Listen to UK female acts talking about this. There is plenty of content on the internet about this. You talk about "merit" but what is merit worth on its own when you have the industry mistreating female artists just for being female? You simply can't expect equal outcomes when half of the artists are being targeted just for being women. Glasto are trying to do their bit in balancing this by giving more opportunities to voices that have been underrepresented. You seem to be under the impression that both male and female acts have always walked down the same path in the industry world, faced similar issues and had similar opportunities. That is not correct. Please, listen to female acts talking about this, we can all help if we listen. An open mind is all it takes4 points

The headliners all deserve to be up there, to a greater or lesser extent. Its the other bookings that really tank it - Gossip, London Grammar, James Blake, Disclosure, Sleaford Mods. Combined with a lack of other eye-catching names (Stevie Nicks, Pulp, Chaka Khan, Prodigy, etc)2 points

Update on my journey discovering The National : After enjoying Boxer, I've now been looping over High Violet. I prefer Boxer, but High Violet is still rather nice. I thought England was my favourite track, but that may be changing with more listens.2 points

If anyone's interested I've been having a play around with the Clashfinder due to a few day self-confirmations and to make it look more like what might actually be the case. https://clashfinder.com/s/gm2024/2 points

I don't think I've ever got that impression from anyone.2 points

Same, I'd far rather they get someone new than someone who played a couple of decades ago who would (in several cases) only be wanted for the same material they played back then. That surely presumably would apply to potential attendees who aren't an old git like me.2 points

Clearly because they make a big deal of the visual aspect. I'm answering my own dumb ass questions here.2 points

Weather far and way the most important factor. A sunny afternoon with friends and I couldn't give a f**k what's playing. Could be a band I absolutely love playing 200m away, someone I've been looking forward to for months, a tantalising prospect ever since the poster dropped, but cold pints and laughter and I'll stick around.2 points

Someone told me what it's supposed to be, but I was asked to say nothing. Plus of course, this is Arcadia and it could all fall apart and the Spider will be back.1 point

I know Avalon have a recent reputation for booking acts which will overcrowd the field, but Gary Numan would surely be an epic mistake. It would be carnage IMO.1 point

They are not prioritising female acts encouraging equality is not prioritising! The more women have a platform in the business, the more producers, the more bookers then the less chance that men get away with that behaviour.1 point

I think the lesson to be learned here is that c**ts will moan about anything1 point

i forget the deets now, but i think its in the public domain, prodigy haven't been a regular booking for an act of their size, there was maybe a public complaint from the band about not getting booked when they were at their peak, or a public complaint about the fee they got when they have been booked, but they've never been cosy friends with the festival (as the few bookings over the years suggests).1 point

There's a 'A Little Sole' gag in there if you do a bit of work for it.1 point

I think if they had come back for just one set of This is what we do for an encore gigs then yes as it would have felt quite special but as they have now been back for so long and done so many shows that if anyone wanted to see them they could have I think it seems less likely now.1 point

It's not as clear cut as I first reckoned. They're a very strong sub, no doubt, but an out and out copper-bottomed no-qualms headliner? Not so sure. Given that the demographic of Glastonbury skews towards that vintage, they might just swing it, but it's far from a guaranteed banker. Can see it being a bit of a damp squib amongst the wider attendees. The fans that like them, properly love them, but there are large swathes of people utterly indifferent/unaware of them, or who only know one song. Not sure I'd take the risk were I booking the festival.1 point

I don't think they would initially be booked to headline but could be a bump up if things don't pan out as they want.1 point

Yeah, lot of truth in this. I'd like it to be more exciting, with less dodgy guitar bands from 15 years ago, less Radio 2, less 2009 indie disco, less beige all round really. Kick out the jams motherf**kers, and the ditch the past glories.1 point

I would recommend Overmono, they are a seriously talented duo, but they are more like a heavier version of what Fred gain does, I would check out there boiler room set they did recently if you wanted to see what they were about1 point

I guessed Friday mainly based on deduction due to: The poster suggesting 5th down along with Keane and Paloma Faith Paloma Faith being busy at headline gigs Thursday and Friday evenings making her most likely for Sunday afternoon. Saturday is possible at a push. Paul Heaton being listed before Keane. So it is a guess - his tour dates only have him down playing in Cardiff on Wednesday so he could do any day.1 point

When you lay it out like that, that's a decent trio. Idles headlining Other will be a proper Glastonbury moment, you know you're getting a guaranteed polished set from Coldplay and if Justice's show is anything like 2017, it'll be the perfect way to close the weekend out. Yeah, I'd have some of that1 point

Just had a nose at the line up. Looks brilliant! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glastonbury_Festival_20081 point

2008 was ace. A tonne of indie landfill but heaps of memorable stuff. Jazzworld was superb. Eddy Grant for example - quintessential Glasto performance.1 point

Maybe Maifeld Derby in Mannheim (Germany) could be a festival for you, but it‘s a small one.1 point

She'll likely play the same set at both and likely neither will be a mix, both will be overwhelmingly her new album. Some would call it not compromising her artistic principles to please an audience. People do expect to hear 'greatest hits' at a festival (or at least more upbeat numbers) and likely will be a lot of chatter during her set.1 point

Somebody's got to put it on here. He definitely deserves it; As an aside, here's an interesting homage;1 point

No way! You might have traipsed past me while I was tripping balls looking at that puddle.1 point

I don't blame you for doubting me because I generally have a terrible memory! Most years at glasto I've just been with my OH, sometimes with 1-2 friends, but there were 7 of us in '07 which makes it easier for me to differentiate that year. There might've been some rain on the wed/thur but I don't think it was problematic until the fri. This was the cinema field on the Thurs night, and people are sat on the floor. My friends wanted to see Ghostbusters, and when I pointed out it was followed by Blues Brothers they had no idea what I was talking about. Philistines 😂1 point

As someone who lives in, hikes in, and works in tourism in the Lake District, I'd say the middle classes are very well represented amongst your outdoorsy/wild camping types.1 point

People moan about the rain, but it does generate a certain exciting atmosphere. And hardship just makes the highs even better. The people who complain about wet weather need to toughen up a bit and get outside walking and wild camping. Too many soft middle class types, I think 😁1 point

Have you done a proper wet one? And I mean proper wet! If you have, even hinting at drizzle should have you banned from buying a ticket ever again. No rain, of any type, ever! 2010 All over again Woohoo1 point

1) previously always been just outside Gate C. Good location although some people don't like the late-night noise coming from the SE Corner. 2) it's discouraged. Staff are supposed to arrive on coaches which these days only go from Bristol, so you have to make your way to Bristol then get a coach to the site. Last two years there's been a limited number of car park passes available, but not guaranteed you'll get one especially if you won't car share with other volunteers. 3) 11am-7pm, 5pm-1am, 7pm-3am. Couple of exceptions where there are some earlier afternoon slots, and Stonebridge which has shifts til 5am. Some people are lucky and get a Wed or Thurs shift, but you should expect a Fri, sat and sun then count yourself lucky if you get one of the earlier days. 4) I've only done it last two years so can't comment much. Mostly very easy if you're used to spending 8 hours on your feet, very nice to be able to have a daily shower, meals have been provided previously in the staff tent although I haven't always bothered with them (I don't like wasting time at camp, rather be inside the fence).1 point

I'm happy with the poster, just need a headliner for Saturday night. I might send Emily an emotional plea to swap Fonataines to Saturday. I missed them in 2022 as well as they clashed with Turnstile.1 point

I would consider women with babies in prams being shoved into bushes, and needed circles formed around them to leave the area, unsafe. No point dragging up what was massive thread, but if ground conditions were bad that would have been a disaster1 point
