  1. I greatly admire the dedication of a man who uses the 1% of battery life he has to screenshot the West Holts lineup and post on here.

  2. Caught Chase & Status' live show in Cardiff last night. Been following them since 2009 and No More Idols. They've always quite nicely traversed the line between pop and the roots of jungle/drum & bass (sometimes really good, other times not so), but last night was a really interesting show. Immediately upon arrival, I was amazed by how young the crowd was. As opposed to the likes of the Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Orbital, Underworld, etc, they've obviously managed to stay relevant to a predominantly younger audience, probably because of the crossover with grime and pop...not to mention a recent resurgence thanks to that fecking Baddadan tune. There's a part of me that wants to get snobby and complain about how commercial it's become but then when I thought about it, it can only be a good thing. Last night there were large groups of teens having the best time. I spoke with a woman who'd brought her 13/14 year olds to their first ever gig (in fairness they spent the entire gig filming it on their phone, but they'll learn) and I realised that making electronic music accessible to the kids is so important. My first exposure to it came in 1993, 7 days after my 16th birthday, pretending to be 18, getting into a club to see Easygroove, Ellis Dee, Donovan "Bad Boy" Smith and MC Ribbz. That's all there was. Getting turned away initially, walking to the back of the queue and successfully trying again in twenty minutes with the same bouncer. So, after a some initial weirdness, feeling a touch out of place at a gig for the first time since NASS in 2019, I remembered this was me 31 years ago. This is my tribe, just 31 years later. But I think that's it for me for certain "electronic" shows now though. At least I hand over the baton to a generation of enthusiastic ravers all as wide-eyed (ok, maybe not exactly that wide-eyed) and excited to feel part of something. Back to the show itself, they've upped the production value and the stage setup was impressive. Sound on-point. Big tunes, all the hits. I'm not sure if they're set for Glastonbury this year, difficult to know what stage to place the live show on these days. In fairness, they could do a lot worse than put them in a similar slot to Pendulum in 2011. Come on, you know you want to hear it on the Pyramid..."baddadan, baddadan, baddadan..."

  8. Hope they're faced with a half empty pitch and tens of thousands of empty seats when they take to the stage.

  9. At this point I think they'll reveal another batch of names next Wednesday, first poster and ticket price soon after and ticket sales will start next Friday (March 1st). It's clear now they choose not to bet on a Billie-sized ticket seller but on a lot of different medium-big names for different tastes, which I prefer.

  33. The Lemon Twigs - I checked their debut a long time ago and put them into "not interested" category. After the line-up release I gave them a second chance and I really have no idea what was wrong with me back then. Atarashii Gakko! - never heard of them before and after being blown away by Perfume and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu last year, I'm sure this will be a great live show. Royel Otis - love at first sight after Going Kokomo appeared in the line-up teaser. It looks like Saturday isn't going to be so weak after all!

  38. A very odd thing happened to me, while on a school trip to Twycross Zoo, while at primary school. I had no fascination then with Formula 1 ( and still don't now) but did talk myself into committing theft. I stole one of these (only a far superior model than that one)from their tourist shop; No idea why. Not a notion of what was going through my brain, at that time.* * - I didn't, fortunately, choose a life of crime. There were bits in between.

  39. Once a few people start having a go at you on the Internet it becomes very easy for everyone else to pile on. Good for you for daring to think differently. Stay away from the politicis thread, independent thinking is very much frowned upon there.

  41. Yes 100%! I realise I may have sounded glib beforehand, but yes, you are working for sure. There's nothing quite like rocking up with a festival with a bunch of expensive kit when it's muddy, a list of people you need to try and catch and interview that suddenly aren't anywhere to be found, all the while trying to take photos and to "experience" it while also formulating what you're writing about/how it'll read etc. One festival I was covering for about three outlets at once, different levels, different mediums and different content requirements (and I had my toddler and a 5 year old with me, thank f**k for my husband and mates!!!) Also, the amount of people who randomly contact you in the run up to any festival asking if you can "get them a free ticket". My sister did this to me last year for a festival that was literally £30 for the day she wanted to go to. I did love covering festivals, but I'm definitely glad to be going as a punter now rather than press!
