In recent years, anything from mid-twenties up has seen people clambering for shade and struggling. There are always people who do fine in higher temperatures but that’s not the story of most people.

Yeh I think 28 degrees would still generally be considered on the 'too hot' side of things

Went to Boomtown in 2022 when it hit 36 degrees, you constantly had to be thinking about shade, suncream and refilling your water. Turns it into a right mission just to stay alive (slightly hyperbole).

This is anecdotal rather than hard data, but I really think you have that the other way round.  The folks who struggle are in the minority.  That doesnt mean they should be ignored or dismissed and it can be due to a number of reasons - age, infirmity, being on SSRIs, perimenopause, etc etc.  But on the average hot day at the festival the stages remain busy and life at the festival largely goes on BAU.

Nah, there were people of all ages around me struggling with the heat in the crowds last year  - healthy men in their 20s+30s.  Most of them weren't at risk, but they weren't enjoying it being that hot either.

What is “hard data”? There’s only experience to go on. Of course that’s anecdotal, but everywhere I went, most were struggling. Busy areas remaining busy isn’t evidence people were doing fine - many would have suffered just to be part of it.

QED innit.  If someone is out in the sun stagefront but suffering they probably need be considering what they're doing and go and cool down somewhere in the shade.  But again that's not the majority of people.  There's not 100,000 people collapsing.

My response wasn't hard data and so my view was anecdotal.  But I do think the festival just proceeding as normal is a sign that folk who needed to mitigate did so and folk who didn't just cracked on with it. 

 

The folk in the middle are those who are struggling but don't try to make any accommodations or adjustments for the heat and they're the ones likely to come a cropper and wind up at FMS.

In general we’re a bunch of idiots in this country when it comes to hot weather. Tops off, not sun cream, too little water, going in full sun not shade, excessive sun bathing, too much alcohol etc

 

I suspect many of the younger people suffering had no need to, but actually chose to 

 

The hottest Glastonbury I remember, the Kylie year, whenever that was, I spent most of every day under a large canvas awning, only properly going out after about 7pm

Probably the most likely demographic to have drank the most and/or be off their chops.

The festival can provide shade, water, sun cream and weather warnings, but it's down to the individual to look after themself. 

The correlation between heat casualties and people who have been on the beers and Mandy all day will be very very high.

The other issue is sleep deprivation with the temperatures inside tents if the weather were to be like this

Yeah it certainly wasn't a criticism, more just a reflection on how difficult the situation they will potentially be facing is. I've done Primavera Sound every year since 2022 and it makes you realise how well Glastonbury cares for the attendee/customer compared to a lot of other festivals

No live acts before 7pm, open all covered venues, have DJ’s playing various genres in each tent so even the “indie disco” lunatics have some where to go. 
 

Sounds great to me. 10pm to 6am are the best hours anyway

Crew simply have no choice. Everything has to be finished on time whatever the weather.

Agreed.  On the hot ones, like the Kylie year for instance, shade is at an absolute premium - there just isn't enough of it. And a lot of the shade is the tents, which becomes unbearably hot.  If the expectation was that 30+ was very likely and rain was very unlikely, I expect the planning would be quite different.
