All the talk of this heat of a Wednesday & Thursday. Imagine it hitting 36 at a crowded Pyramid, West Holts, Park, etc. on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

 

That would be seriously dangerous.

That was tough, and what was that, 26°? Glastonbury is my favourite place on earth, but I personally couldn’t have picked a better fallow year, this heat would’ve killed me.

Everyone thinking they have dodged a heat bullet, when this sort of weather is going to be more likely to happen. We need to adapt to it.

Given how unstable the climate is getting, it's probably more a surprise this hasn't already happened before now.

 

But the weather is a lottery. We don't know yet what Glastonbury 2027 will be like, even if I think it's very possible one of the next 5 Glastonbury's may well have heat like this.

Yes we should have, but by the time ER were formed we were at least a decade too late. 
 

We’ve known from the 60’s, maybe earlier. The oil industry hid facts; denied, put out false information etc

I'd have probably been stewarding, which would mean multiple heat casualties coming my way for medical / welfare. Glad to have dodged that but indeed, this will not be a once a decade thing anymore but maybe every other year. Ive only got maybe another 10 years of being fit enough to survive it, so this kind of feels like it matters now.

 

Incidentally, just seem this in the G. Great film now in 4K.

30 minute drive from site and we got some good Thunder and lightning,  electric went for several hours. Some heavy rain, but nothing like the other day

I do think we're at risk of getting a bit carried away here. I certainly beleive in climate change, and I certainly think what we're seeing this week is because of climate change, but it also doesn't follow that this is going to happen most Junes for the rest of time. It's possible for it to be true that heatwaves are getting more frequent and hotter because of global warming, while at the same time this weather in June in the UK being an abnormality.

It won’t be every one but it will become more and more the norm . They’ll be exceptions . But last really wet one was 2016 so a decade ago . As we move forward 10 years from now the chances of it being everyone increase again . There will also be times where we get increased rainfall because of climate breakdown and they’ll also need to adapt to this

I suspect we will see more and more where it's 26 or 28 (which to be honest, is too much for me).

 

I just mean the temperatures we're seeing this week of 34+ are likely outliers.

 

To be clear, I don't know that. They *could* be the new normal. They've not happened before, they could happen again in June 2027 at which point I will start worrying.

 

But the jumping straight to "this is the new normal for June" I think isn't helpful (unless you're trying to convince people to take climate change more seriously - because scaremongering does work - but that's not the point of this thread).
