we left Glastonbury 4am this morning, decided to try and beat the traffic. it was really  hot even then. M5 really pleasant early am! Got back home ten and a half hours later, thank god for air conditioning in the car and a bag with wet towels.😊

it was obvious from the forecasts Somerset was going to be a hot spot today. 
a balmy 27 degrees here now!

Thay 36 degrees would definitely require a few icey cold Brothers to take the edge off.

Personally I think they should be stringing up lightweight cotton shade canopies over areas like the tree stage.  It's not perfect, it doesn't entirely block the sun, but it sure feels like you're in the shade there.  More of that around the site, particularly if they can turn it into structural art, would be a start.  The area around the cider bus is also ideal for such shade installation as is the area outside the acoustic tent.

 

Even larger scaffold and wood or shipping container structures provide a decent amount of shade as the afternoon wears on, and if oriented correctly when built they could be designed for this purpose and add more colour and vibrancy to the site at the same time.

Yes, we’ve seen them. Incredible. We bought a few canvas prints in a shop just across from the market monument yesterday but they seemingly were lucky to avoid the floods.  The bloke said he has a stall at the festival near the t and c area.

that might be her shop ... is called visions of Somerset and definitely at the festival in t and c area

Yes and no haha. I've been scrolling back through stuff on Instagram and it did kind make me wish it was on this year and we were all there in the amazing sunshine. But then I snap out of it and remember that 30 degrees plus at an outdoor festival is actually bad.

Hard disagree that my 200quid Lidl air conditioning unit isn't worth it. If it was only 3 days a year you might have a point but it has been at least two weeks this year so far.

32 degrees in my flat at the moment. I've lived here 25 years & that's the highest it's ever been inside. If I was at Glastonbury now, I'd be dead!

problem is that afternoon Jerry would go hard on the Brothers taking the edge off the heat having a great old time... and morning Jerry would be left with the Brothers level hangover in the oven-tent wishing the Brothers bar was never there...

actually, I've just packed in work for the day, enjoying an ice cold beer and looking out over the garden and the heat has kind of calmed down to an almost pleasant level and I could VERY happily be sat on the balcony of the Avalon Inn right now.

 

(well, unless they decided to go further down the road of killing off the Avalon field... but I digress...)

I'm not going to explain the whole "wet bulb" thing and people can Google if they want but the wet bulb temp near Bristol is 25C today (against 35C actual). Heat index (feels like) of 39C.
 

To compare, the hot weekend at Coachella last year was 39C actual, with a wet-bulb of 16C. Heat index of 35C.

 

In 2012 when Coachella broke the record and hit 41.7C, the wetbulb maxed out at 21C. Heat index of 40C.

 

So yeah, if we were at the festival today it would feel one degree cooler than the hottest Coachella on record.

One of the reasons we stopped trying for tickets is I was convinced the infrastructure wouldn't hold up to a proper muddy one any more. Too many people, if they're all trying to walk on the narrow tracks, no ability to sit on the grass, I thought the festival was one bad weather weekend away from disaster.

 

I wasn't expecting it to actually be freak hot weather that might end up being the problem though.

+1 for wet bulb - that’s how we measure heat stress on athletes in hot climates.
