Olivia Rodrigo

Watched on TV Olivia smashed it. Full of confidence from the off, the Guts touring cycle has honed her act perfectly. Every song was a banger in my view and bringing out  Robert Smith was a genuine shock and an utter delight. The crowd seemed up for it on TV too. It looked busy but not overly rammed, having Prodigy on The Other was the perfect counterpoint to O-Rod I thought.

Glastonbury really seemed to have had Sunday sorted.

Lacking a glasto ticket or tv license I'm only getting the chance to check the performance out today, lovely heart affirming stuff as expected, little Bobbie Smith as loveable as ever.  This was the only headline slot I'd have really cared about had I been there (with no disrespect to anyone else who played), she was the soundtrack of 2024 for me.

Was torn between Overmono and O-Rod last night, and i'm so glad I saw Olivia, one of the best performances of the weekend for me. I'm not quite her demographic, but she had such incredible energy and it was such a good time.

I've been thinking about muscial 'family trees' this weekend. Mainly cos Neil Young suffered from having no current acts who reference him. The Cure have sprouted a whole new shoot this weekend. Many will only listen to a track or two but some will tumble headfirst. It's wonderful.

I have tried multuple times to force me into Olivia's music and even went to see the last 30 minutes of her set at the Pyramid after Jorja. But she is just really bland. A complete marketing product. Its sad because she really tries.

Very small potatoes but Djo had a Neil t-shirt on during his set.

I was very near the front for this and loved every minute, apart from getting my head bashed about by that barrage of bouncy balls at the end.  They were heavy!

So heavy. Phone got knocked out of my hand and my glasses are still somewhere in that field 😂

Good. The Cure are terrific, even if Robert Smith did look very confused by the whole thing on the telly.

He always looks confused but now I've rewatched, I think he really enjoyed it once the crowd knew who he was and his songs

It was the only time I can recall when being slightly taller than most others around me was a distinct disadvantage!

O-Rod's heavy balls were twatting everyone.  I guess maybe thicker material to protect the lighting mechanism?

Crowd reaction around me was a little muted when Bob came on (a la Nick Cave coming on for Kylie).  However when Friday I'm In Love started everyone clicked that they knew it and started going wild.

I was very undecided about what to see last night and made a snap decision to do half of Olivia and half of prodigy.. SO glad we went to see her.. ended up staying a lot longer than intended (and would’ve stayed for the entire set if I hadn’t needed to drop a battery pack off at the Vodafone drop place by San Remo)..

She was a lot more rock than I expected, loved the Cure songs and she just seems really talented, genuine and likeable.

Made all the more special by seeing so many happy teens and kids skipping and dancing around the trackway where we were watching from, absolutely losing it to hear their favourite songs.. it was a vibe.

Haha we'd agreed my girlfriend was getting on my shoulders during Good 4 U, but had to abandon that idea when I felt the weight of one of those!!

I’m not what a lot of people would assume is her demographic (but that’s BS, her demographic is music fans) and thought she smashed it. Watched from up on the hill by speaker 8 and everyone around us was in to it. Not as lively as the front but plenty of dancing and singing. One of my highlights from the weekend.

I did a bit of light listening prior as expected to end up there and will definitely do more.

As others have said I thought the band were amazing.

Those knocking the crowd for being subdued need to go and rewatch it on Iplayer - her fans down the front were singing every single word to every single song and you could hear it even when she was singing (for a lot of acts you only hear it during the crowd participation bits watching on TV). She absolutely smashed it and no doubt will be back to headline in 4 or 5  years time - she's rumoured to have a new album out later this year so I reckon she's a headliner option whenever her 4th album comes out (2028/29). That would solve the biggest issue of not quite having enough hits to fill a full set. It was also cool to see an American artist genuinely so stoked to be playing Glastonbury and realising what it meant after Neil Young seemed to not give a f**k about it on Saturday night.

By us the crowd was immense, just behind the second barrier right of the sound desk. Everyone singing and jumping

    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
