I'm not even a fan but even I know the band really grafted around Manchester back in the day and worked their way up without any help whatsoever.

Having a mum who's on a soap opera (and neither parents even in the music industry) is hardly an immediate, glittering ladder to stardom. C'mon.

His Dad plays Les/Lesley the cross dresser in Benidorm too… that’s obviously how the band got their big break!

Speaking of, found out today Matt Healy's mum is Denise Welch which explains how such an incredibly mid band got so far, nepotism alive and well in show biz

Yeh, she’s very quick to see quote their fans on Twitter about how she is his mother.

DiRo was announced even earlier for 2020 - 10th October.

Going back in time:
2019 - Kylie 19th December
2017 - Gibb came with the 1st poster
2016 - ELO 1st Feb
2015 - Lionel 30th November
2014 - Dolly 27th Feb
Before that they always came with the poster.

So, you're saying there is no pattern?

Having wealthy parents always helps.

Sure, but do we extend the same level of criticism to rich, privately educated artists like Fred Again or is it just acts the forum doesn't like?

The 1975 have been huge for years and some people only just found this out, so this re fred is news to me and probably many others

It might give you an opportunity, but you've still got to graft your arse off and have some talent.

They ain't getting anywhere if they don't work hard and yer man can't write a tune.

Couldn’t agree more…. How far can Denise Welch and Les from Benidorm actually get you?

Obviously they're not gonna have any sway in the industry but having wealthy parents who have agents who will also know other agents certainly helps get records in the right hands, and it would be naive in the extreme to not connect the dots between how many bands make it who just happen to have parents in the media...

Yeah it might get a demo into someone’s hands, but unless they have talent and application it won’t get them much further.

Didn't La Roux basically admit as much at one point?  Having parents in show business can only be an advantage, but only from the point of view of accessing the right people.  If the music is shit, it will still fail.

Oh My God It’s The Church should headline Glastonbury.

Praise the lord for sexy Jesus!

They were wandering round the Pyramid field when DiRo was on.  One of our gang turns round, points: "Look at him dressed up as Elton John. I mean, erm.....John Lennon!"

I mean, it's not like they were carrying a massive sign with Sexy Jesus written on it or anything.  No wait, they were.

My point is less about picking on individual artists and more about how music fans weaponise nepotism almost exclusively against artists they don't like, and overlook privilege when it's the ones they do like.

In a music industry now where there is less money and it's harder for artists to even pay rent, whether it's Matt Healy's semi famous parents or Fred Again's £45k a year boarding school, increasingly it's going to get harder to find top level artists who don't have some sort of extra resources or money somewhere down the line.

Never underestimate this forums ability to bash 1975, logic or facts go out the window to shit on them.

Elton John 😂

One of my memorable moments from this year was the OMGITC DJ set at the Greenpeace stage on the Thursday.

They were fucking fantastic, Michael Alabama Jackson got the crowd to text a phone telling their naughty stories from Glastonbury years gone by.

An old fella called Dave text in saying he hadn’t taken drugs since the last time he was in Glastonbury 20 years ago and now he’s 70 and taking drugs again.

Next minute, Dave is on some young lads shoulders and the whole crowd was chanting Dave’s name.

Great moment that and really set up a wonderful Glastonbury.

    • It can take around 30-45 mins to walk from the arena back to the transport hub with the crowds, depending on density. Allow even longer in poor conditions. I don't think you'd need to leave Linkin Park early though, you have at least an hour and 20 minutes to walk to transportation. I certainly wouldn't leave early in your shoes, knowing I can just walk to the airport if needs be (2 mile walk and another 30 - 45 min walk depending on your walking speed and conditions.) Maybe just don't linger too long for the toilet / food after Linkin Park have finished.  It will definitely make sense and all just fall into place on the night, don't worry too much and have a great time. The very worst that can happen is a little extra walking to the Airport Skylink bus stop, as those Skylink busses are 100% 24 hour. 🙂  GFS, ICON and ECMWF are ALL in agreement on the latest runs.... After a mildly moist Weds and Thurs, high Pressure building from Friday... Lets just hope they continue to agree... ☀️☀️☀️
