What happened at Elton?

Just the point that almost the entire festival were there, despite the other available headlining acts!

Just to add, I was working on the West side of the site as Elton was due to start. It went absolutely silent, and with no people around - never seen anything like it before at the festival.

They have everyone's age etc on their memberships and that will be linked to other see tickets data about the types of acts those people are interested in etc. They know who's coming. Maybe they know it'll be alright 🤷🏼‍♀️

How do they know everyone's age? At no point during registration are you asked to give your date of birth. The only data available on age is the amount of teen tickets aged 13 to 15 and the remainder are all adults over 16. I don't have a SeeTickets account so SeeTickets hold no other information about me. Even if I did I don't think it could be used to provide information to a third party due to GDPR regulations.

Never got the fuss about how many people watch a Pyramid headliner. Are you stood at the back with a clicker?

🤣🤣

I can understand the festival being concerned from a crowd control point of view but yep as long as other acts aren't swamped who cares. Some are bigger than others. Some of my favourite Pyramid headliners have been ones that haven't had a big a crowd and that has actually enhanced the experience.

The 15 mins before and after Elton came on were probably the most dangerous crowd situation the festival has had in the superfence era. Every path full, people on top of the toilets over by Kidney Mead, packed in tight in the Outer Crust… it was still just about comfortable in the middle but just getting in there was exhausting.

Doesn't help that a lot of morons were sitting down on blankets. They had to do an announcement at one point i think.

More than one and with minimal impact, at least where I was, until a few minutes before. I didn’t feel it was too crowded, but there wasn’t any room for anyone else. Still an absolute all-timer.

During Elton, obviously it was packed, but the other stages were far from empty. Alt-J on The Park had a cracking crowd, it was one of my favourite Glastonbury experiences ever. And once they finished, I walked past The Other stage, and Queens Of The Stone Age looked bouncing too. Made me realise that seeing a band clash with a big headliner is a great way to get a brilliant crowd who are really into the artist.

I saw the first 30 mins of Elton then darted over just in time for the start of QOTSA. Seen them about 10 times and was by far my favourite time seeing them, best crowd I experienced all weekend and great energy for a festival closer. I like Elton but really didn't enjoy what I did see, felt a bit flat for me!

People are so stupid with this.

Had some people trying to sit on the floor in front of me. We remonstrated with them and they were giving lip back and saying they were too tired.

Explaimed one crowd surge and they will on the way to hospital but they said they would take the risk.

In the end when the first announcement was made a group young 20s ish lads saved the day in an odd way by simply walking on to there blanket and standing inbetween the people sat down  at that point they reluctantly shuffled out of the crowd

I did the opposite. After the phenomenal Alt-J set, I sprinted to catch the end of Elton. The atmosphere was dead on the edge of the crowd (though to be fair, maybe they were all non-Elton fans who had done the same as me! 😄 )

Really enjoyed QOTSA too. Crowd was definitely a committed one, but it was small by any metric.

Reminds me of the last T in the Park. It sold poorly so on the last night people were at RHCP leaving about 20 people to go attend LCD Soundystem on the Radio 1 stage. There was a picture of it at the time and it was painful.

Yeah

No one showed up for LCD Soundsystem’s set at T in the Park

Same thing happened at Oxegen in Ireland. 5000 people at the Arcade Fires main stage headline set. Everyone else was back in the campsite setting fire to people tents.

Dunno what is was about the organisation of those festivals but it turned people into barbarians

Same thing happened to me with LCD Soundsystem last time Coldplay were on. Not a huge crowd at the Other but everybody properly up for it

Same thing happened when At The Drive-In played against Kasabian at Leeds 2012. Half-full tent for one of the best performances I've ever seen.

I think what we can learn is that Coldplay are playing. You might want to watch them, and you might not, and someone will feel the opposite way to you. You do you, don't worry about the rest, just have a good time.

Chances are we probably crossed paths given how small it was! I was in the pit the whole set having a whale of a time, incredible live band.

I left Elton to catch the some of Pheonix on Woodsies. I think I was there about an hour into the set strolled up to the barrier 😅

By the end the lead singer crowsurfed and shook peoples hands as he walked back to stage in-between the crowd. Can't have been more than 200 people there by the end

Was in the pit myself! Brilliant end to the festival. Viagra boys-War on drugs- qotsa was an all time run.

I went to Coldplay last year at the same concert we’re 2 other efesters @funkychick2007 and @DareToDibble all there independently all going to Glastonbury this year and all very likely to be watching Coldplay

Yeah, was my second time seeing them in the stadium too. The first time was 2017, having seen them at Glastonbury the year before.

I honestly think a lot of people who like Coldplay don’t tend to say so as they’re seemed uncool. Fortunately I have no such problem admitting it 😅

I will definitely be there in June despite having seen them fairly recently.

I went to see Phoenix in the tent at Reading in 2013 while Biffy Clyro headlined the main stage. Pretty much the same as how you described haha. Great set though, as always.

The out of sync Coldplay wristbands were great in the LCD crowd
