ok so if the Arctic Monkeys are booked , they should be the next announcement ? any reason why they might be held back ?

Total guesswork at potential reasons, with no substance or knowledge behind any of these:

If they've got any tickets left to shift for their own extensive stadium tour
If the promoter of said tour has a clause saying that Glastonbury won't get announced before date X
If the band or their management wants to schedule the announcement relative to something they have planned (for example using it to put attention on a new single, or waiting until after they've done XYZ)
If the Saturday Night headliner has stipulated that they should be announced first
Probably a load of others that wouldn't even occur to us.

In all honesty I'm not sure there necessarily should be any rhyme or reason to the announcements, at least not one that's obvious to us in advance.

It’s not strange to see headliners held back till the poster. In 2013 we got nothing until the full thing dropped. Just because a headliner is obvious doesn’t mean they will be racing to get it confirmed.

yeah of course ... they could equally be announced ... gives us something to look forward to 🙂

I think it makes sense to hold back AM, especially if the final headliner is whack / considered weak. Puts a solid name onto the top of the poster (even if they aren't exactly loved on here for the slot, its a big booking regardless)

Theyre totally gonna hold off on announcing AM due to getting negative reactions over GNR. Genius

You say this but but to the rest of the country AM are a solid headliner and band and probably appeal more than GNR. Whether they're a good booking at this time in their career to people on this forum is a different question.

Yep - in terms of mainstream reaction, a lot of the response to AM will be along the lines of "good, about time Glastonbury got a proper headliner again".

As always this forum is in no way representative of how things are likely to be perceived elsewhere.

Personally I think we get the Legend and another smaller announcement (like Little Simz last time).  Then poster in March.  Not really too long to wait now

Think it has to be someone really special / pushed by glasto. Not sure who that is, its definitely not Fred Again i think (although they got Rock Werchter to give him his own announcement so maybe?)

Always slim pickings in January. Only 4 acts ever announced, Monae was in a radio interview, Traore was part of a wider announcement about support for Mali, R.A.E. slipped in as part of the ETC details and Kris Kristofferson forced their hand by self confirming.

January
07 January 2019: Janelle Monae
17 January 2013: Malian act Rokia Traore
20 January 2010: New map released
20 January 2017: Kris Kristofferson
24 January 2002: Licence granted after hearing
24 January 2022: R.A.E. confirmed as part of the Emerging Talent Competition announcement
29 January 2009: Resale date announced

Those had quite often had a bit activity than we've had thus far though?

I suspect they are waiting for some gigs to be sold out before they can announce artists. If it is AM and GnR I suspect GnR might get the big announcement and AM rolled in with the announcement of a couple more acts just as it's never as exciting to announce a repeat headliner. I wouldn't be surprised if the next announcement is either the legend or one of the Other or West Holts headliners who would be considered a bit of a big deal.
