Greg Wilson. Has made me wonder what Funkingham Palace is? Doesn’t ring a bell to me.

Funkingham Palace is part of the Rabbit Hole.

Wasn't he the one that wrote a blog saying he'd never do Glastonbury again because they don't pay enough?

That was in 2016:
https://blog.gregwilson.co.uk/2016/06/why-no-glastonbury/

He returned in 2019 though:
https://blog.gregwilson.co.uk/2019/05/summer-festival-schedule-including-glastonbury-return/

And had a good time:
https://blog.gregwilson.co.uk/2019/07/glastonbury-mixes-2019/

No mention of his decision not to play previously. Reading between the lines, I wonder if he just hadn’t been offered the gigs he wanted in 2016 and 2017?

Cheers both.

Neither have I - due to the queue - but after speaking to @ian the worm and watching a few videos, I'll try again this year!

Isn't there two places - the Rabbit Hole and the Secret Rabbit Hole?  I think there's the bit that is obvious and then a hidden bit.  I've been to the normal bit but couldn't be bothered to muck around trying to work out how to get in to the hidden part.

I think the ‘secret bit’ is what’s called Funkingham Palace. Although it’s not really so secret as there is a massive queue to get into it.

Yeah, that's what I thought and I can't be arsed to queue for something when there's so many other places I could be.  Maybe one day.

For some reason I thought it was a muddy hole the secret route, not a party tunnel! I'm equally unsure, do you end up in the same place as the Rabbit Hole stage or is there another stage only accessible through the tunnels?

You get to a different stage I believe.  I don't remember if I actually saw the entrance, only the queue for it.  I asked a security guard and he told me what the queue was for.  I think a few years back it was more secret but now everyone knows about it.

You've got to cough up the cash to get quality like Greg Wilson.

...who's Greg Wilson?

The first British DJ to mix live on TV on The Tube in 1983. A Hacienda regular. One of the best producers in the re-edit genre… And all round good egg. Some of the best nights I’ve had Greg has been DJ’ing

From what I've heard, he's a bit of a prick.

That's a lot of research from not knowing who he was 6 hours ago. I suppose its a Bank Holiday 😄

I clicked on the blog expecting to eyeroll at it but tbh I thought it was even handed and fair. Seems a better deal has been found for this year!

    • I don't think a whole raft of attendees who've been going every year since the mid 90s and mid 10s collectively all thinking the festival is no longer for us suggests we've all aged out of it at the same time. Something fundamental has changed and its pretty obvious what that is. The fact that theyve managed to skinny down the line up so much AND STILL get punters in is a real credit to the bookers, filling it with enough of the current thing to get the kids excited for a weekend while pulling in enough big names to make it worth a day out for the casual Florence fan etc... is impresive. Re Leeds: Annecdotally, from videos, numbers have looked tiny vs Reading, esp on the camping end of things, it would be good to know the official numbers and how much they're down from the peak sell out years
