UK leading the world in vaccine rollout

At current rates going to take 200 weeks just to fully vaccinate the designated 9 groups in phase 1. Massive effort needed to complete just that group by mid/end summer.

Not surprising- they've spent decades blaming immigrants for everything rather than the government, so this is really just an extention of that mindset

You're right, just a gentle reminder for anyone who thinks the past weekend, or anything of its ilk, will change people's mind about this government.

Was on a call tonight (I'm a local cllr in London) and the message from Public Health England is very much that the Oxford vaccine once its approved will be a real game changer and they do seem to think they can vaccinate the most vulnerable by the end of Jan (assume that may just mean the first group).

But we need to remember even just vaccinating 2% of the population will bring deaths down by 40% due to the fact we are targeting the most vulnerable and at risk first.

Nah, I know. But 50 million shots to be given to the so called Phase 1 is a massive ask. And it's not all over as soon as the first group are completed. I completely agree that some restrictions can and will be lifted when the real and perceived danger starts to reduce, no way are they going to be able to allow something like Glastonbury to go ahead next year.

Best to just cut losses, work through the summer to break the back of the programme, and plan for and start again in 2022.

At least I've been consistent in that for quite some time.

Totally get all that - but I think it is important that people realise that we don't need to hit 50 million to reach normality. Nor that if we did does it mean that this thing is going to be over either.

Would /could there be any delays to Oxford because of the new mutation ? Pfizer seems to say it doesn’t affect that vaccine ? Could it be different for Oxford ?

Howdy, nope, they all stimulate pretty much the same immune response, just use different ways of getting the spike protein into us. So, all the vaccines will be fine. Only thing holding up Oxford approval is the complexity of the data and as far as I know, they only sent the final data over this week. It’ll be along soon enough! Hang in there!

Deal done to reopen the French border to lorry drivers using 30 minute lateral flow testing

Logistically, how long will it take to get those tests where they are needed.  Serious question.
