Neither of those groups are at any significant risk though. If they were they’d have been vaccinated months ago.

Covid is a non-issue for healthy people below 50.

Right, but offices weren't asking people to go back a few months ago, but are starting to ask people to go back now. So it looks like the higher ups have waited until they've got the vaccine then started asking people who haven't to come in.

I wouldn't have the same issue with companies that asked everyone to come back in Feb after the vulnerable were done.

India's getting added to the red list.

About time, the situation looks pretty bad out there. I hope they can get on top of it quickly!

A Christina Pagel thread to argue over.

The key worry of this variant at the moment is the longer incubation period. We've just had our first mini cluster in 6 weeks from a University professor who tested positive on day 15.

Asking such a binary question on such a complex issue is a bit silly and pointless.  It was clearly a whole host of factors behind the rapid spread, with many crossovers. Of course the government had a part to play in it, but so did many others outside the two options given here.

Only 34% remembered Patrick Vallance standing at the podium and telling the press that we “don’t want to go too early” and showing off his graph explaining that we need to wait for the spread to start climbing towards exponential growth  before we lock down or we’ll be locked down “with not a lot going on”.

This policy cost many, many lives and should never be forgotten.

And also let's not forget the "wash your hands and carry on" advice

Or maybe the other people remembered in late autumn/early winter when the Government refused to listen to everyone telling them a disaster was incoming if they didn't tighten restrictions.

It's a stupid question, because it depends entirely on which wave we're talking about.

Isn’t this because Johnson needs a trade deal with them? Brexit...

I presume the plan was also he'd go over there scratch their government's back and in return announce he'd managed to 'secure' some of the AZ vaccines that were being held back, where as now he's had to cancel the trip and likely put them on the red list

yeah, and we don't really know the full story either.

I saw the NI vaccine news so thought I’d check in England and it now states you can book as long as “you were aged 45 or over on or before 30 March 2021”. Having a date there is new, isn’t it?

It's been there for a few days. They do keep updating the eligibility on that link. It was closed to healthcare workers for a while and has now opened back up to them.

    • A question has crossed my (questionable) mind;   Has the size of the Green Fields remained the same as other areas have expanded / been added on to, since say, 2014 (the last time that I attended)? Are they 'lost' within, or well attended?    That's actually two questions. The second one just slipped in at the end by taking advantage of my lack of means to stop it.
    • I'd say the same about Kylie.    Annie would be awesome, Duran not so much, and on the issue of them wanting a beanie slot, that probably rules out a fair few others who I think would fit the bill very well... and are legitimately more entitled to a headline, and/or too expensive.   Was just about to suggest Chaka Khan, but see @Gnomicide has beat me to it!    What about someone like Bryan Ferry?
    • It's certainly gone more that way, but then they went completely in the opposite direction and had Cat Stevens.
