Well said, but most of his posts are trolling for attention so I would probably try to ignore him if I were you. Not really worth your time. Thanks for all you do.

I agree with this. Thanks for your hard work @Lycra

I’d argue that like everything it’ll affect everyone in different ways.  I had a positive test a month ago now and even when I walk upstairs I’m out of breath (granted not the fittest but did used to walk about 3 miles a day to and from work).  Lascelles and Saint-Maximum from Newcastle have apparently struggled to recover from their bouts of it.  Whereas others like you’ve said have been out and back in a week or 2 (Salah was one).

Think what’s clear is it’s a horrible disease and we can’t predict how any one of us would feel with and after it.

Yeah of course, I just mean the advice can’t be don’t exercise full stop, rather don’t exercise if perhaps you’ve had it fairly badly. You’d assume if there were any dangers to footballers who had mild or asymptomatic infection, then the clubs would be well aware of any such risks.

Questioning assertions made about Covid isn't showing disrespect, it's just trying to make sense of this situation, your claim may be true but then it may not, that doesn't make you a "liar" just not fully aware of how this is playing out.

"Clinical staff working in a covid rich environment are also more likely to be reinfected." Are they? or are they more likely to have developed immunity to it? Your claim isn't (yet) scientifically proven so questioning it is perfectly fair. BTW saying that these reinfections have been confirmed by a PCR test means nothing, the PCR could be picking up fragments of the first infection, it is not reliable enough. I know it's been hard for medical staff throughout this and it's understandable if you are a bit oversensitive to any criticism/questioning but no one on here it being deliberately disrespectful we just want to try to understand what's going on.

Not sure if you've followed this all, but he said he was downvoting all of Lycra's posts as a matter of course, no matter what they said. Seems pretty disrespectful to me.

I'm sure those footballers are monitored closely and given the ok to play by medical staff, so maybe public should do same...

I didn't see that, and it's totally out of order, I've made it clear before that downvotes should only be used as a last resort when someone posts something particularly offensive, if fuzzy's doing that it's just childish, we should be having honest debate and questions not getting into petty personal squabbles.

I really don't like the upvote/downvote thing...I just stick to likes.

Not being oversensitive. Calling medical staff liars when their learned experience differs from your own perceptions is pretty low in my book, especially when they have no basis. Science does not progress with a closed mind. We have a great deal to learn about SARS-CoV-2 and covid-19.

I hadn't seen the comment ZMG mentioned,

"I’ve downvoted all of his posts since I saw the one that looked like a blatant lie last week."

Not very "Glastonbury" I can see why that would irk you, he seems to have gone for now, hopefully when he returns he'll have a better attitude. BTW thanks to you and Mrs Lycra for your work as I said before we all know it's not been easy.

I’m giving you a greenie and upvoting that post. It’s 2021 so let’s all be more kind and I’ll start by saying sorry to you for accusing you of lying.

Interesting thread in support of 12 weeks intervals for Pfizer. Interested in @Toilet Duck take on it as always!

Yeah, this is more or less the reasoning that I thought myself when @stuartbert two hats asked yesterday. In terms of the immune response (and how robust the final immunological memory is), the longer gap should be fine. Again, Pfizer have hard data on how their vaccine works with a 3 week interval, so that’s what they will recommend (doesn’t mean that other intervals are detrimental though). In the phase 3 data from Ox/AZ, I noticed at the time that it looked like flexibility was possible for dose 2 and that that might aid roll out, looks like the regulators came to the same conclusion (though they had more data than what was included in the lancet paper, so could see out to 12 weeks...to be honest, 6 months is likely to also be ok and you could vaccinate the whole country with 1 shot by June and give them all their second shot by Christmas...but, the safe approach is to go with the data you actually have...what’s been decided is kind of halfway...I’d still finish the Pfizer courses they’ve started though).

Hi Lycra! I always appreciate reading posts from you, Toilet Duck and others with a bit more inside knowledge 🙂

I keep hearing people say "reinfection is incredibly rare", but surely it would be at the start of a pandemic? It seems kind of obvious that as immunity wears off over time, we could start seeing people who were infected at the beginning becoming reinfected. There is going to be little evidenc yet, but we do know that people can be reinfected...so presumably over time the number of cases will increase?

Thank you @Fuzzy Afro. I hope you and your family have a Happy & Safe Year and I hope one day we can all (that's everyone on here) enjoy beers and music at Glasto.

It’s quite the failure of the human immune system if many people are becoming re-infected with a virus that has not materially changed just months after their initial infection. It’s been mentioned on here before that one of the reasons the 2009 swine flu pandemic wasn’t the abject disaster that this pandemic is was because many of the oldest groups had been infected with the same H1N1 strain back in the great pandemic of 1918 (Spanish flu) and their immunity was still holding up 91 years later. Obviously coronaviruses behave differently to influenzas but even still, you’d expect our immune systems to be better than that.

France is to speed up its Covid-19 vaccination programme after the government was criticised for being overly cautious in favour of vaccine sceptics.

The health minister, Olivier Véran, announced on Thursday evening that the vaccine would be made available to health workers over the age of 50 from Monday.

Nursing and medical staff had not been expected to get the vaccination until the end February according to the government’s original timetable.

The announcement came after ministers and officials were accused of pandering to anti-vaxxers in rolling out the vaccine.

Five days after launching its vaccine programme, the last figures available suggest just 332 people in France have been inoculated. Germany reported having given about 130,000 people the Covid-19 vaccine in the same period, and Italy 8,300. Spain said it was on track to have administered 1.3m doses by Thursday evening.

The flipside to that is that Covid is a corona virus as is the common cold and we repeatedly get reinfected with those don’t we?

FWIW and from what I’ve read I would imagine reinfection wouldn’t be so much of an issue second time around anyway.

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
