breakfast!

When I see people with trolleys full of stuff going into the festival I always wonder how they manage to have that much stuff. Now I know, some people bring loads of food and cooking stuff as well as everything else!

so, going to glasto is a long held dream for me which is finally coming true!

I'm obviously more excited than a kid before Christmas and have duly read as much of this thread as I can, watched every blog, stared at the map for hours, worked spotify into submission etc etc in order to vent my excitement.

the only question that I don't think I've seen asked/answered is about breakfast!

I don't want to buy one every morning and won't always be in the mood for one but....

can anyone recommend a good breakfast which will survive being in a tent for 4 days?

im currently thinking of... bread (obvs), mushrooms (no not that kind!), chorizo, maybe beans. maybe.

any gastronomic advice welcome!

tl:dr

breakfast suggestions please.

Red wine , starts my day at Glastonbury

Why anyone would bother bringing breakfast with them is beyond me. Dry cereal bars or porridge for breakfast sounds so grim when there's amazing food stalls a stones throw from yer tent.

There are but it's cost couple of coffees and breakfast for me and my wife is 15 to 20 over 5 days all adds up . So we try and just eat mid afternoon and later on . Just save on breakfast . But with u on dry cereal bars . But porridge is fine or croissants or something similar

Hmm is it too soon to try packing?  ?

I've actually considered this over the weekend. I'm moving to Glasgow soon, but will be travelling back to Sheffield on the tues night to get the coach from here with some friends. I thought it would be really clever to pack now and leave my bag here, and then I wouldn't need to haul all that stuff up to Glasgow with me.

However, as it turns out, packing when you have absolutely no idea what the weather is going to be like is impossible. Who'd have thought it....

What are the potatoes like in these? Do they still resemble actual spuds? I have horrible memories of having to eat tinned potatoes when I was a kid. Makes me gag a bit just thinking of them

Hahahaha, this is so true. What was wrong with them and why were they so slimey?? My Mum used to make a potato salad with them. Gross.

I tend to agree - the first year I went it was with my (late teenage) son, daughter and niece and I took food as I knew I'd end up paying for loads otherwise!  As far as I can remember we cooked breakfast (the Sainsbury's brunch thingy already mentioned) made hot drinks in the morning, took some of our own booze but bought everything else on site.  The other times I've been, I've only had myself to worry about so took some tent snacks (cereal bars which can be quite nice actually, chocolate and maybe some other small things) and again some booze,.   But I think I ended up not eating them much and buying everything I needed to eat.  I'm undecided now, I'm wavering between taking a little stove and pan to make drinks. On the other hand I'm sure I won't be arsed to actually get around to it and will instead wander to a coffee point or something.  So maybe not.  I'll no doubt change my mind about a dozen times - and that's only today! ?

But of course it depends if you can afford to spend the money.  If you can't, the decision is made for you.

Now i know I may get ridiculed for this but I have often had a drive into Glastonbury and had breakfast at one of the little cafe's. Have done it at least twice per festival, sometimes 3 times. Its my way of contributing to the local economy. This year I am in a campervan, so will probably make my own. I will miss going into the village though as I really like it.

I can't wrap my head around that at all. Even popping to the car is too much like breaking the spell, once I'm in the magic kingdom I don't want to leave for a second until I'm on the way back home.

I pack the same no matter what the weather looks like.  You need layers, shorts, good footwear, a jumper and a waterproof regardless of what Michael Fish says.

Agree.  Even in 2017 there was brief rain on Saturday morning!

While this is obviously true, I normally wear dresses instead of shorts/tshirt, and the type of dress/skirt does vary depending on heat/rain.

Arguably, I am just making it a lot more complicated than it needs to be...

We use to always cook sausages or bacon and would freeze a pack which would then defrost whilst there but given up on it and now just take the individually wrapped brioches and cereal bars.

Bacon, egg & sausage bap. Fruit smoothie followed by strong coffee from stalls in Williams Green.Consumed whilst reading the Guardian. Perfect start to the day!

I'd have to be within 20 seconds of a long drop at all times if I started my glasto day with this

Usually just munch on some pringles, sweets or chocolate when I get up. Very healthy start to the day. Then go see one of the early acts, and hunt down a proper meal for lunch.

If I fancy a fry up, I'll usually head to the place between JP and Pyramid for a sit down full english. Had no idea that place existed until the Wood opened the other year.

Never bring any other food with me. Trying all the different food options is a big part of the experience, so will budget accordingly.

@stuartbert two hats, the Magic Kingdom ?. Such an apt description. And I agree, there’s no way I’m leaving the Magic Kingdom either, until they’re kicking me out.

I hate cooking at home so there’s no chance of me doing it on my holiday. I’ll probably just take a packet of sugary cereal bars in case I get one of those hangovers where my blood sugar is so low I can’t move. Otherwise it’s normally brunch on site. I’m craving a Bloody Mary thinking about brunch - if anyone has had any top notch Bloody Marys on site in the past, please let me know where!

Breakfast ciders!

I don’t bother bringing food anymore other than stuff for munchies. Tried bringing things in the past but never used it all and hate stuff going to waste, plus the stove, kettle and aeropress (take that for middle class w*nky) just add to luggage.

Fishfinger baps are the only real breakfast for champions anyway ?
