DownboundTrain52
Ooooooo. I can picture that actually. Smokier than the other two by some distance. Would still need the obvious bombast behind, for me.
CaledonianGonzo
Dunno if Bonnie Tyler's ever covered it, but it would probably need to have been done in 1983. The Pandora's Box version also suffers from the gloss of the Dion version.
Hugh Jass
I saw Celine on a chat show a couple of years ago (Ross maybe?) and thought she actually came across very well. Seemed quite down to earth and had a sense of humour. Not what I was expecting at all.

My "friends" went to the titanic museum in Belfast and sent me the darn video they have on a big screen. Not knocking her voice, each to their own, but not for me thanks. Meat Loaf flounced, Deacon Blue lasted 1 song. Bonnie fronted it out and by the end of her set had the whole crowd singing along to It's A Heartache. Scenes. Quark
In summary, Kylie absolutely fucking smashed it tonight. There were sparkly outfits. There was a rainbow confetti cannon. There was a glitter cannon. There was no slowed down stripped back version of Can't Get You Out Of My Head, went full throttle. In fact the ending segued seamlessly into the second half of FM's The Chain. There was a Lionel-level sing along to Especially For You. New material (with a couple of minor exceptions) fitted in seamlessly. Voice was spot on. No phoning it in. She looked like she was having an absolute blast. Fuck yeah Edited September 26, 2018 by Quark 2

Saw her in Birmingham last week and she was absolutely on top form. It's a more "stripped back" set compared to what she's been doing for years but it works. It's far more suited to the legend slot now. She's in command of the band and the audience. More relaxed than she's ever been and clearly having the time of her life doing things this way. Sounding better than ever as well. #TeamKylie

The Red Telephone
Last night I watched the “Glastonbury Golden Greats” programme that was on BBC4 ealier this year (forgot I’d recorded it!). Reflections: 1. I am now sick as a dog at the thought of missing out on a ticket on Sunday. 2. Paul Simon looked to have stunk the place right out. 3. Has Ray Davies done it twice? Pretty sure I saw him on the Sunday afternoon in 1997...and he was on in 2010 too?

CaledonianGonzo
In a polarised, binary world where everything is either the best or worst thing ever, P-Sizzle was neither. He was alright.
Winslow Leach
On the subject of acts with an advanced age and a distinct lack of apparent interest, what's Van Morrison like as a live performer these days? He's got a new album coming out and unless people assure me he sounds like death itself I'd be up for an afternoon Pyramid slot.

Not a slamdunk by any means, but it probably wasn't even the worst thing I saw that afternoon.
