One of those headliners has to be wrong although it’s difficult to say which..Both myself and @dentaIpIan have heard from well placed sources that Mumford and the lads are nailed on.

Aren't Mumford and Sons often credited on here as being one of the worse headliners ever...? Why would they book them again? Not that I'm doubting your info of course, more just hoping it's wrong! Presumably if they have been booked, its instead of Stormzy, as the info on the others seems more solid. Stormzy is a "risky" booking, sure, but fuck me, Mumford and Sons would be uninspiring as hell.

Not that I'm too fussed who the headliners are I guess, and I suppose there is every chance that those three headliners might mean more resale tickets available which is good news for people on here. But then, people like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis, so what do I know....

Sure man I vibe with that completely but the booking isn't weak because you're not interested in it. That's illogical.

I should have phrased it weak for me, this probably is a dream for a lot of people.

Paul McCartney and The Cure are far from weak bookings.. quite the opposite in fact, especially Macca. You can't let who you're into/not into cloud your judgment on a good booking.

I have no interest in Adele and U2 but never for a second would I suggest either of those were weak bookings, they were huge

In my opinion, Stormzy headlining in 2019 would feel like a rushed job. I'd like it to happen more naturally at a time when he has more than one record to play. That's just my preference though.

I certainly wouldn't hold the booking against them and I'd understand why they would want to ride the wave of a movement that feels socially / culturally relevant and important.

I guess if you're ready to step up to the plate, fair fucking play and I've no doubt he would grab the opportunity with both hands and smash it.

Is he not working on new material/due to release anything in the next 6 months or so?

Not getting the Stormzy shouts at all. Not even done an arena tour yet and his biggest festival slot was headlining Wireless, where BBK have also headlined. At the very most a sub, surely. He doesn't have the material to do a 90+ min slot at the moment unless he delves right back into his mixtape days.

Seen a few people mentioning Lana Del Rey over the last few pages, has there been info to suggest she'll be there?

There is no doubt a lot of hedging of bets by the bookers and Mumford and Sons could be in there until any not so sure acts make their mind up and sign on the all important dotted line.

Not a fan but I do like their new single !

I feel like grime's biggest 'moment' has been and gone now to be honest. If BBK headlining other in 2017 was a tester then you have to say the test didn't go well at all, I was there and the crowd was minuscule (clashed with Ed Sheeran but still).

Stormzy's album was barely even grime to be honest, it strayed more into hip hop. If you're looking to book a hip hop act 'of the moment' then you take Kendrick. Yeah DAMN. is a year and a half old but so is Gang Signs and Prayer. At least Kendrick did the Black Panther stuff since then, Stormzy has done little to nothing.

The only way I'm seeing a Stormzy headline set is to save money because they've used a massive chunk of the budget elsewhere which would be fair enough. But I'd be more inclined to wait until both Stormzy and Skepta release their next albums and then decide which one of them can do it based on the reception to those albums.

Really? I didn't know. Fair play then, give him a shot, I reckon. You won't see many people take that opportunity in the same way I think he would. He's hungry for it.

Yeah BBK crowd was thin af and I couldn't see Skepta headlining but I'm not talking about grime as a blanket term as such anyway. I agree Stormzy's record ventured further into other genres. I think he's relevant, that's all it comes down to. Probably one of the most relevant artists in recent times. 1.5 years since the record doesn't change that. Today, he's a young black man pushing boundaries in the music industry. He's engaged a generation of people, won over almost everyone who's watched him and he's someone with values that a lot of people can relate to and believe in. He's got a powerful voice and he's definitely using it. That's what I mean by 'ride the wave of that movement'. Sure, Kendrick is definitely the global star and yeah, they should definitely be looking at that as an option but what can you do, eh? Doesn't have to be one or the other imo.

Lots of fair points, can't really disagree with anything you've said.

No I was asking!

I'm not into his stuff so I don't really follow what's going on, was just intrigued

Stormzy headlining Pyramid for 2+ hours off the back of 1 album, an hour subbing on the Other and a unreleased (and no date) second album would be a huge leap of faith from the Eavii. Not for me Clive. (edit - I know he's done his own big shows)

Can see him headlining West Holts or Other Stage with their 90 minute headline slots and lower profile. I can't believe for a minute that Stormzy is a booked headliner with 1 album out; penciled in, an option maybe, if the second album is out in spring and it's massive.

To book him him now would be unprecedented in recent times wouldn't it? Even Mumford's 2nd album was out in Sept 2012 when they headlined in 2013.

    • https://x.com/amirtibon/status/2083054470871535853   Some thoughts on the Gaza agreement announced overnight, which despite my reservations and concerns, I hope will be implemented. 1. Donald Trump is trying to collect "wins" and "achievements" ahead of the midterm elections. His party is entering that election at a disadvantage, but because Democrats may choose weak and unpopular candidates in specific states, much like Republicans did in 2022, there's a reason for Trump to at least try achieving a surprising result like the one Biden secured four years ago.   2. The will to provide Trump such a "win" was an important motivation for all sides involved in this agreement: Hamas, Netanyahu, Qatar, Egypt, UAE and Turkey. All of them hope, each for their own reasons, that the transactional president will remember their role in the agreement and the positive media coverage it has generated and will continue to generate. You can like it or not, but that's the nature of diplomacy, especially in the Middle East, under Trump.   3. Netanyahu and his band of liars in the Israeli media (and the last few suckers in the American media still buying his spin) are already trying to oversell the agreement and present it in terms that contradict the Board of Peace statements and briefings. Of course, the October 7 Prime Minister can't just say the truth on this one, which goes something like: "I'm trying to stay on good terms with Trump ahead of an election here in Israel that will determine my personal fate and whether or not I go to jail in 2027."   4. For Hamas, the agreement is a way to buy time and survive, which is basically the organization's overarching goal since October 7. They lost most of their leadership and thousands of their fighters; they will also, I believe, give up some of their weapons to the new Gaza-based Palestinian government, which is a good thing. But at the bottom of all their decisions is a simple calculation: being able to say, "we committed the most deadly and humiliating attack against Israel since the start of the conflict, and survived as a movement and an organization to tell about it."   5. Hamas was able to say that yesterday, before the agreement was signed, and it can also say that today, after the conclusion of the negotiations. So in that regard, the agreement is preferable to the murky post-war reality that preceded it, in which Hamas was recruiting again thousands of young fighters, holding on to all its weapons, and controlling 99% of Gaza's population, making money off people buying fuel and cigarettes. Changing even a part of that terrible reality, by collecting some of the weapons and allowing progress on reconstruction under a non-Hamas government, is better. It means coming to terms with the fact that Israel under this government failed to dismantle Hamas and allowed its survival even before this agreement was signed.   6. Do I think the agreement will be fully implemented over the next 300 days, as I understand the timeline? I'm highly skeptical. But I'm also asking: what are the alternatives? Netanyahu, in his quest for political survival at all costs, ignored David Ben-Gurion's national security strategy of seeking short and decisive wars, which was based on Israel's unique internal and external challenges that make it dangerous for this country to have long wars of attrition. The result is an Israel that is hated, isolated and denounced around the world like never before, and is totally reliant on the support of one man (TRUMP) to avoid crushing international sanctions. Going to war in Gaza once again based on the same promise of "finishing Hamas," which this government failed to achieve after three long years, would have been suicidal unless Trump promised his full backing. And Trump, for good reasons, can't give such a commitment after his bitter experience with Netanyahu in Iran and Lebanon.   7. For me and my family, these are all very personal, not only political, questions. My six-year-old daughter will start school on the Gaza border in exactly one month, as we rebuild our life in the same home where Hamas tried to murder us on October 7. We've learned over the years to be highly skeptical of premature victory announcements and diplomatic celebrations. When these things collapse under the cynical realities of the conflict, most of those announcing them are not around to face the consequences. Still, I don't see a better alternative to the 20-Point Plan that Trump presented last year, at least not with Israel's current position of isolation and exhaustion under this government. So I have some hope that the agreement will succeed, even partially, and deliver a period of quiet. For us on the border, that would be significant after three years of war and trauma. And maybe in the long run, with different Israeli and Palestinian leadership, this will become a first step in a broader positive change for the region.
