Lost Ticket

A friend of mine has broken the news today that their dad has lost their glastonbury ticket and it's likely it was thrown away after being signed for. He's absolutely beside himself.

Has anyone ever had any success in trying to get a replacement through worthy hq or see tickets? We don't know what to do :(

I know from another thread on here see and Glastonbury festival are saying they will not replace lost or stolen tickets. How long ago was it thrown away? Can they raid the bins?

Only thing you can do is call them.  I'm extremely doubtful they will help, as I've not read of them doing so before, but nothing to be lost by trying.

Horrible thing to happen. I do wish they'd introduce some sort of a barcode system on tickets so they could void them and issue replacements if people lose them.

I would have thought they already would have, such a simple and logical thing to do.

Gutted for the OPs mate. Maybe his dad is just taking the Mick.......

When you look at the queues at the gates sometimes that sounds like significantly adding to the complication to cater for a tiny percentage of tickets from my point of view.

Logical? Yes.

Simple? Nah, with the scale and temporary nature of Glastonbury, it'd be incredibly difficult and expensive to implement a system that could be stable enough to be relied on.

I don't think it would be a good idea really. I've worked with the access scanners and they can be very hit and miss. Given the amount of people you'd be getting through the gates, you'd be waiting a lot longer than usual.

Also theres the issue with checking tickets when leaving the site or going to CV fields, you'd have to have the ticket scanned in and out each time.

It is risky but if your friend turns up to the festival and says their ticket was lost or stolen then your friend may be able to get in.

They won't advertise it but do have the capacity to deal with these kind of things. I've seen it happen before - there is a hut thing where the police will ask a load of Q's like address, DOB etc and then random ones like how would you get to your nearest Tesco etc. and they'll issue a replacement if they think you're legit and can answer without hesitation

But there is zero chance of getting a replacement beforehand I'd say.

hardly, pretty much every outdoor gig and festival going can manage it.

if festivals of 5, 10, 50, 80 thousand people can manage fine and have much smaller budgets to work with, then there's no reason Glastonbury can't.

Sorry, but any comment like that is an instant giveaway that you've not looked closely at just how complex the operation at Glastonbury is.

How many of those other events have 18(ish) gates, several of which operate in unique ways, most of which operate 24 hours a day for over a week, with hundreds of people checking tickets on both entry and exit, plus more ticket check points on certain vehicle routes (blue/red) outside the fence, and 4 enquiries cabins, all spread over an area of several miles, most of which are isolated from each other and have no kind of fixed connectivity or power?

Now bear in mind that you've got people going in and out to campervans, offsite camping, etc at all hours of the day, and that tickets are often a little worse for wear even after day 1 let alone 5. Bear in mind that the pedestrian gates are frequently being reconfigured to adjust for demand - so throughout the day lanes are being swapped between staff / public and first time entry / re-entry / exit. Meanwhile on the vehicle gates and especially on red/blue gates, they're moving all over the place so would need handheld scanners with flawless range and incredible battery life - someone could be on a tour bus checking tickets, or checking the tractor 10 (large) vehicles behind it in the queue.

Quite simply, any electronic system would introduce too many potential points of failure, and it'd only need one of them to go down to cause huge problems. It's not simply a matter taking what another event does and scaling up, Glastonbury has an unreal level of complexity as well as the scale.

Yes, of course you could throw enough resources at the problem to create redundancy and eventually get something that was reliable enough to use. But given everything outlined above, I'm absolutely certain that "enough resources" would be an unrealistic figure - the people working on this for the Festival aren't idiots, if they could deploy the technology in a reliable and viable way, don't you think they'd have thought of it by now?

Yeah, you could turn up & say you  gave them to someone in a see tickets T shirt back up the path...

be prepared to argue & plead & have all your ID, email receipts etc

then just eventually find a way in either way if they say no

I know someone whose ticket was maliciously destroyed by the lead Booker who signed for it! They were relentless in contacting everyone possible at the festival. Someone from GF even rang the lead Booker who thought it was a hoax and confirmed what they had done! The ticket was never replaced but they were admitted through the international pick up gate.

Why do people ever trust anyone else with their tickets. People need to start taking responsibility. Why would their Dad bin the ticket. Did they not tell him it was coming. its always someone else's fault. People need to deal with their own shit.

If my dad or any other family member threw my tickets in the bin they would no longer classed as a member of my family.

We all make mistakes and need a little help from time to time.

I hope someone is there for you when you need them.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
