Weather 2016

I'm not sure where I was in 2014 then but see a lot of people saying it was bad. I seem to only remember a bit of drizzly rain on the Wednesday? Must have been too drunk the rest of it. Would also take last years weather every single time. Absolutely perfect (apart from one downpour on Fri).

I was there too.  Was something special, the rain actually made it better.

Wasn't it just? Everyone was doing their damn best to get their funk on despite the rain, there was a clear patch of sky which was inching itself to the spider, drawn to the party. And then in a glorious moment, just as heard it through the grapevine kicked in, that wonderful bit if sky was over us, the rain had stopped. Ponchos were flung off. Everyone was in ecstasy. Limbo sticks were pulled out and the party went up well past 11.

its probably one of my favourite and quintessential glastonbury moments.

Yes by far - really regret the time I wore jeans on one of the wet afternoons, took hours and hours to dry out and couldn't get the bastards off!

I can never understand why people wear jeans to a festival.  They are useless in just about any weather.

Shorts are the way forward.

I have walking boots this year, still taking wellies - just in case.

What gets me, are the people who are  already pissed wet through, who stand under an overhang of a shop or bar to keep out of the rain. You are wet, you wont get any wetter. Just have a laugh.

My first Glastonbury was '97 - the rain didn't put me off, but it didn't make it easy. The following year I thought there was no way the same thing could happen again....I couldn't have been more wrong.

But I was younger then...not sure I could cope with that now!

Jack One has given some input... https://www.netweather.tv/forum/topic/85641-glastonbury-2016-22-26-june/?page=1

'The latest trend continues to be higher pressure building this weekend turning things much drier. Into next week the pressure dropping a little but not to the extent of this week. So my current guess would be fairly decent weather for the festival period, some rain at times but nothing hugely damaging at least not for too long. However temps do look a bit on the cool side'

This. The only possible reason to take jeans is for the journey back. Never take jeans to wear on site.

Jeans would be mental to wear in any weather soak up mud/water like a sponge, v heavy, v hot on the ol sweaty bits and take up a lot of room in bag.

I'mbringing shorts, t shirts, one hoodie for if it gets a bit chilly in the evenings and a set of waterproof trousers/coat for if the worst happens (handy that my old man's a keen fisherman and lends me his decent all weather gear) ...also walking boots have got me by fine even in 2014 when it was quite muddy at times....comfier, better ankle support and less likly to be sucked off in the mud.

After reading that I'm getting a 2008 kind of scenario

The Thursday evening saw a fairly substantial amount of rain. By the time we finished watching the Levellers in Leftfield (?) the bottom of Pennards was beginning to look rather damp!!

Looking promising this morning from the 3 models, Possibility of more unsettled conditions for the early part of the festival (wed-thu), but even this is not set in stone. After that definitely a trend for high pressure to settle things down over the fri-sun period.

Pretty much my thoughts are the same as yesterday, some rain is possible, particularly earlier in the festival but overall we should be ok.

A lot of very heavy, thundery showers yesterday, a lot of surface water, but ground isn't too bad under foot - I'm about 10 miles South of Pilton, not sure if they experienced the same as the showers seemed to be pocketed.  There's been quite a bit of rain since the w'end however.

Family member who has access to aero based forecasts, suggests the rest of the week is unsettled, but improving next week.  Let's hope that's true!

Yep, that freshened my memory, cheers! I was watching Chvrches at JP during the Friday storm and there was a waterfall forming on the edge of the tent, pretty exciting/terrifying to see.

I've only been going since 2010 and the only year where the weather has really gotten me down is 2011. Coming out of the Dance Village on the Wednesday evening through the shin high mud was absolutely miserable and I could tell one of my Glastonbury-virgin friends was already regretting parting with £200. Definitely the low point of my festival-going career.  As long as we can avoid a repeat of that, I'll be very happy!

2010 was my first year too and during the first couple of days of 2011, I swore I wouldn't go again... Didn't last!

Absolutely, brett.

I am a bit of BBC Weather disciple and the 'Glastonbury' forecast for next week continues only to look more settled.

Bottom line is that it really doesn't look as if we are heading for anything like the rain that we're currently seeing in the Midlands, so it should be fab.

On my way home from work yesterday, and to work today, the lashing down was at levels that would produce a 2007, I reckon!

Get it all out of the way now, and this time next week we'll be T minus 12 minutes for the Gates!

:)

0z gfs showing a slight improvement on yesterday's forcast LP to dominate early next week towards the end of the week the south should start to see a gradual improvement. Wet and chilly Wednesday, warmer towards the weekend but showers still persisting thought.

    • A win is a win but it was a very poor game with only 4 shots on target in the whole game. Scotland obviously handed a massive bonus with Brazil and Morocco drawing but I don't think either of them will be too worried.
