Please accept my apologies as I don't follow this thread too religiously, but how can a weather forecaster predict 8-9 days in advance to that accuracy, different forecasts, in two places, only 10 miles apart?

Stop with this crazy talk!!!

You'll be saying that we can't predict Saturday's Lottery numbers next.

Disclaimer: You can't accurately predict the weather more than three days out and certainly not to an accuracy of 10 miles.

Unless there's a huge pressure system (again I beg forgiveness here as I am no expert in weather related phenomena) but I would argue that the weather cannot be predicted accurately within 3 days of the festival. I swear the last few years each time I've checked on the Tues/Weds for the next few days, it's never been right!

I prefer to trust my instincts - step out the tent, look up at the sky, lick a finger and stick it in the air. Pack the raincoat into day bag if deemed necessary.

Then pick 6 numbers for Saturday. No chance with a lucky dip though.

On the equivalent day last year, all the forecasts were pointing to a wet festival - more rain than 09, 11 and 13 - and there was PANIC:

This is back when the Nal refused to accept anything other than wall to wall sunshine was being forecast.

Times change.

What does it say? Looks like a shit map of Europe thats been scribbled on by Helen Keller.

Hes been an inpatient in Broadmoor for decades and only has limited access to the outside world based on good behaviour. However this year he injected boiling water into his grandmothers skull. Heres the last known picture of him.

I love your descriptions of Jackone, the poor bloke, i do hope he isn't reading them. Although no doubt you'll tell me he can't when he's in solitary confinement, locked up in Broadmoor.

Wasn't far off either.

That's because we have just had all the rain in one go! Thundering now.... Let's get it out the way this week.

Most years I get a tad panicky prefest but strangely this year I have faith that it'll all be okish. Maybe a bit of drizzle and a day of flipfloppable mud but that'll be it.

Nooooo!!!!  Such complacency is a bad thing.....panic man, PANIC!!!!

I just googled "Glastonbury Weather"

Up pop several headlines suggesting that Glastonbury is set to be a "washout"

All the articles are based on the the Met office and BBC reports that suggest the weather for Glastonbury will be a mix of sunshine and light showers.. so pretty much like last year.

Its amazing how spiteful the media are, they just want it to be a disaster for everybody going.

Yes this does seem to happen every year, & I really can't fathom why the popular media actively seem to take pleasure from predicting a terrible time for us who really enjoy an undeniably fantastic festival, which is open to all. It's not like it's an elite crowd who are permitted to buy tickets (OK, I accept that the cost of entry is a barrier to many who would like to go), but anybody with £230 can try equally for tickets.

Is it something like they're really like to go but daren't do it for some reason, so they have to convince themselves it's going to be a terrible experience and that they're not really missing out?

They don't - they just want a story out of it, and like it or not, the general British public love a good story about people getting piss wet through and having a shitty time. I read somewhere that sales figures for the Daily Express go up by as much as 30% when there is a negative weather related headline. We f***ing love it!

Here's what the websites are saying compared to previous years:

mean 14.jpg

max 14.jpg

The forecasts for 2014 (which ended up relatively wet) and 2013 & 2015 (which ended up relatively dry) didn't diverge until just less than a week before the festival.

So let's see where we are in the next day or two. At the moment it doesn't look brilliant but neither did 2015 at this stage and it ended up fine.
