So at current standings we have:

80% of >40's know ELO

55% of >30's know ELO

37% of >20's know ELO

I would say that would be greater than Lionel and definitely greater than Dolly, Kenny et al.

you're probably right on the whole, but I'd disagree as far as 40+ goes with regard to Lionel. He was everywhere during the 80's, and like him or not, I reckon something like 95% of 40+ people (or at least efesters) would know several of his songs, either solo or Commodores.

Embarrassingly, I can recall far too many of their songs (Without cheating!!):

Wild West Hero

Telephone Line

Hold On Tight

Calling America

All Over The World

That's The Way Life's Meant To Be

Confusion

Last Train To London

Don't Let Me Down

Can't Get It Out Of My Head

The Diary of Horace Wimp

Roll Over Beethoven

Livin' Thing

Across The Border

Laredo Tornado

Eldorado Overture

Rockaria

Mr Blue Sky

Night Rider

Overture 1036479 (or whatever...)

And being in my 50's I should know better....I'm sure that's enough for anybody...

40% of respondents across all ages have very little familiarity with ELO.

without a doubt more than 60% of people knew Lionel and Dolly songs.

And don't forget 'Chinatown', if only for what sounds like the slide guitar bits in the middle.  One of my top ELO tunes, that.

Arrgghh no it wasn't ELO it was The Move...  similar, but different.

The Move was Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan, plus Roy Wood, but then again Roy Wood was in ELO at first.
