Almost everything Jeff Lynne has done has sounded like a poor man's Beatles.

Including producing The Beatles.

Actually, if I put myself on the analyst's couch, I think that's why I appear to have it in for him.  It was when his name came to my attention.  I wasn't massively impressed with the sound of those two "Beatles" songs at the time, but when I heard the original acoustic demo of "Real Love", that's when I really went off him!

Of course I know ELO! And I'm 46.

Grew up with music from my Dad's collection, including ELO. A New World Record is a fab LP, including one of my favourite ELO tracks, 'Rockaria'. So, I do have a bit of a nostalgic soft spot for them, and anyone suggesting that Jef Lynne , at his best, is not an extraordinary song-writer, is just plainly incorrect. You might not like the stuff, but it is musically very well written. Saying all of that, I no longer have any ELO in my music collection, on vinyl, digital, or dust-collecting CDs that I no longer play. Would I watch them at Glastonbury? The short answer is yes, the longer one including the qualification that if there was anyone on my 'to see' list post-line up homework that clashed, it'd probably be a no.

I'm 40 and probably recognise 10-15 of their songs, I wouldn't call myself a fan but I have their greatest hits, I think they are ever so slightly cheesy, not quite as cheesy as Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds but along the same lines.

id definitely watch them at a festival but wouldn't spend money on one of their gigs.

most people will have heard mr blue sky and Xanadu but may not be aware of who did them.

I'm confused, I know my age that was the easy bit.

What if I never knew ELO but after typing it into Google I recognise 3 of their songs but would not have linked them together previously?

What is your policy on this?

Execution at dawn by firing squad.

I'm 32 and having been to Glastonbury in 07, 09, 10, 13, 14 and 15, ELO, should they play, will be by far and away my most eagerly anticipated act of all the years I have been.

I've always liked their music but have got massively into them since their latest reappearance, for which i am so thankful to Chris Evans, who was instrumental in getting them playing again.

I respect the fact, (although find it hard to believe) that some don't get anything from their music. That's music for you!. I seem to be the only person on here who really doesn't get Arcade Fire. How can a band I had never heard of, have still never heard on the radio and, when researching their 'best material' found myself completely uninspired by, headline Glastonbury?

I'm old enough to remember how uncool they were, how I secretly knew all their songs and only came out the closet years later...

Ditto ABBA, Lionel Richie, Neil Diamond, and way too many more!

They were incredibly uncool, me and my mate used to have to doodle the logo inside our exercise books.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
