I'd never listened, like listened to the Beatles till last summer. Prior to that, I'd assumed I knew them cos, you know, it's just around you, on telly, on the radio, every c**t with an acoustic guitar at a party, it's almost like a folk memory. I'd never actually put a record on and listened to it, at home without other stuff going on, rather than in shops, pubs, whereever.

So, I'd inherieted a copy of the White Album from my Mum, gave it a spin. Man, it was, in a word, weird. The sound is strange, odd, disquieting. Totally different from the milkman-whistling chirpy sanitised stuff I was expecting. Dark, messy, sprawling, self indulent, but totally, totally not mainstream in any way shape or form. That's some out-there shit right there on that record.

I am convinced it was a piss take. The whole thing. "We are that big we can give you this and you will still buy it". 

Revolution 9 is mental, creepy as you get. Goodnight at the end is bizarre, like a disney film ending. "Wild Honey Pie" is hillarious.

"Why don't we do it in the Road?" is a great tune, but the lyrics are quite obviously a laugh. 

It's really long, sod all goes together. Lots of it is a mess, but it is great.

the white album is superb.

I think everyone should be introduced to it while tripping off their head on acid, and being told about the Manson murders.

I genuinely think the Beatles greatest album is probably in the White Album somewhere. Even if it is a big bloated in places it's never out my top 3. Love it.

Abbey Road is by far my favourite Beatles album. Sgt. Pepper is vastly over rated in my opinion.

 

As for Roses4Baggie... what a tool. He must get a kick out of it. 

New Order and Depeche Mode have certainly made tunes with as much variety as the Beatles.

Although I am not a massive fan of the Beatles I do have huge respect for what they achieved and the experimentation they carried out. They were genuine trail blazers and innovators who happened to some how wrap it all up into pop songs 

When I was growing up in the 80;s, there seemed to be a genuine aura that surrounded the Beatles,

In this digital age it would be interesting to think about how The Beatles would sound today.
